View Full Version : Who said the 10-22 can't do portraits?

Tiggy the tiger thinks otherwise. :D He was all by himself today, so he took some pictures of himself with the 10-22.

No PP, just resized for web:

Last two would be print quality if the room were a bit brighter. I really like the angles you used on them. It seems like it would be tough to innovate in portraiture due to the subject nature, but you seem to have done so nicely.

Haha thanks guys. I was just messin around, and I know people say I never post pics so I said, hey, let me put two and two together. :p But Tiggy the tiger is a very photogenic person!

The first post clearly states Tiggy tooks these pictures of himself, therefore I'm afraid I can't give you credit for taking pictures.

Nice angles. I also like that the background is not totally blurred so it also shows the room.

  Then he'd end up selling his stuff for a P&S, then no more entertainment. Was this shot in RAW or jpeg? I can't get the EXIF so what focal length? My Siggy at 20mm looks works fine too.

all 4 are jpeg, as i was just taking some "mess around cuz im bored" shots. first 3 are at 10mm (16mm). last one at 22mm (35mm). all shot @ 3.5.

I wouldn't use the 10-20 for portrait. See how big his nose is? :D

Hey August posted a pic and still, not everyone is happy. What's up with that?

August23,

If anybody's photos would convince me to get this lens, your's would. I'm struggling against buying this lens. I already have too many. Help me fight this budget depleting temptation!

Honestly you could get rid of that tokina and the kit lens if you really want it. Besides, how could you say no to Tiggy?

At 10mm, the edges of the frame will stretch the image creating a weird look. It will not look good on people, making them look deformed. As you go higher in focal length, things start looking more normal. :D That would be my donation.:p

I'm going to test this on my mom tomorrow. I wanna see JUST how "stretched" the results are. granted, its just a stuffed animal, he's in no way whatsoever stretched or deformed in any sort.

Shoot it vertically from about 5 inches away and you'll never look at your Mom the same again.

Wow, didn't realize you were so young...and you've owned more gear than I've even seen...what do your parents do for a living exactly?

Cool shots though, that lens has an awesome perspective.

I really like your room... especially the colourful letters spelling August. I used to have those when I was in pre-school too! ;)

august23
9th of May 2007 (Wed), 08:34
Hey I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. Besides, every chick that walks in to the room I get the cute factor points. :p. And to chandler yeah, 4.5 obviously because of the focal length and the variable aperture, forgot about that! :p

Honeybee
9th of May 2007 (Wed), 08:36
Is your Tokina not wide enough?

Sure, the 12-24 is wide enough! What does that have to do with anything?:)

off, you should be ashamed of yourself tempting me like that. You people are no help! Guess I'll have to join a 12-step program.

I let the grandchildren use the 18-55 and 350 when I'm showing them things photographic. If any of them show a real aptitude, s/he can take over my business when I go to the great beyond, so I can't sell that either.

I think 10mm is a heck of a lot of fun but the distortion is too great for me to consider doing a real portrait with it. It's great for those offbeat fun pics though.

LOL Steve that baby has a huge adult sized hand. After seeing the pictures in the opening post I think I am selling my 10-22 lens. How can I ever, hope to top anything like that in my life? Ah even if I can't it sure is crazy wide like this picture of Easter Dinner last month. (and this is a crop, including me, who was so distorted I looked like the incredible bulk hulk.)
