This is probably old news, since I haven't gone online for a while. But I saw the Mk II yesterday.... cost about 5K usd... can't afford to buy one yet...

Really?
Forgive the sarcasm; the truth is, that's a generally well-known fact already. In fact, that's pretty much what we've all been talking about for the past few months. Several members of this forum already have them.
Glad for the input anyway. Don't be such a stranger.

yup, it's out.
I've been blessed enough to try one out for a few minutes at the photo store.
I've had thoughts of putting my car up on e-bay

Okay, that makes your post a lot more relevant.
They're still impossible to find here in the US unless you happen to 'have a friend' or be exceptionally lucky. I'm told that Canon anticipates shortages through the summer.

That's not a bad thing for me, I'll stop thinking about it and just enjoy my new L lenses.

Belmondo - You gotta like having friends. I haven't checked, but have you posted any likes/dislikes on it...?

I've been buried in first-of-the-month papework that I should have done yesterday (instead of running into Los Angeles and back----6 hours round trip). As a result, all I've been able to do so far is shoot a couple pictures of the Venetian blinds in my office. I will say that based on that limited experience,
1. It takes very good pictures of Venetian blinds.
2. It is the most solid feeling camera I've ever held in my hands.
3. Though not really intuitive to a novice user, the operation of the camera is easy enough to pick up as you go along. (Navigating the menus notwithstanding).
4. It is intimidating in the extreme.
Bottom line: I'm happier than a pig in mud, and I appreciate your help.

I have so many fabulous shots of mediocre furnishings. I wonder if venetian blind pics will replace the obligatory duck shots?
