I was doing some research about photography laws pertaining to privacy. I am trying to start a business which will include league sports and I wanted to know what the laws stated. I have not been able to locate any oklahoma laws, but I am still searching......... meanwhile I ran across some general info. I wanted to get your thoughts on the merit this carries. The website is http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm. The little pdf flyer seems to be a pretty good quick reference. Let me know if you think it is way off.

It is funny that you brought this up. I was out the other night wanted to get some long exposure shots of airplanes coming in at night. I went up the the international airport. There was an abandoned parking lot that was pitch black. I pulled in and set my tripod and camera up. An airport policeman pulled up and got out. I acknowledged him politely. He walked over and asked what I was doing. I explained to him what I was doing. He said that it was illegal to take pictures of commercial aircraft. I politely disagreed with him. He repeated that it was illegal to photograph commercial aircraft. Again, I politely disagreed and packed up my stuff. I went over to a short term parking lot, paid the $5 and parked right next to the gate. I got my tripod and camera out again and set it up on the sidewalk. He came over and was pissed that I would set up again. I told him that I have paid to park in the parking lot and that I was on public property. He was so pissed that he just left. I wish I would have had something like this to give him as a reference.

By the way, I'm sorry that this is a long post. I didn't mean to hijack your topic. I will delete it if you want. Thanks.

I have seen that before, but thanks for posting it again. I'm in Australia, so I'm not sure how relevant it is for me. It is a great reference for me anyway.

Kevin: I have heard of this a lot over at another forum, and it seems to be a common mis understanding by the police. It is perfectly legal to take photos of any aircraft if you are on public property, to my understanding anyway.

No worries. I wanted to spark a little discussion and personal experiences always help to validate things like this. Or at least, let us know how people really react.
