I want to be able to give my clients photos on a cd - however - one can generally take images from the cd's and reproduce the photos - is there any way that I can protect the cd - so that the images can be seen - but not reproduced? Thanks in advance!

Put them on small.
Watermark the images.
Put a label on the CD with copyright notice.
If they *really* want to, none of this will work however, except *maybe* the combination of them.

As Rene says, nothing is foolproof. Burning a Copyright notification into an electronic file along with the photos, and adding the Copyright notification on the CD surface, both give you legal protection...assuming you ever catch them and take them to court! But nothing perfectly protects you from the act of image theft...which is why movie and music industry executives are flummoxed.

Why don't you have a nice little proof album printed at Mpix? That might be a better alternative than CD's or 4x6 proofs. I currently print my own little thumbnail proof booklets but plan to give Mpix a try at my next wedding.

Save them as *.pdf instead of jpeg or tiff. When saving, you can set the security options to prevent printing or re-saving.

Why dont you use a program such as Proshow Gold http://www.photodex.com/products/proshowgold/
Then your clients can view your images (on computer or DVD player) but not print them. You can set up images to have an image number if you wish, play as slideshows etc etc.
If you using it for proofing you can even set a limit to the number of times the disc can be used (or a timescale) which is good for cashflow as it encourages your clients to place their orders

Gary - An absolutely perfect answer. I just built a short one and it is the best solution I've found.
As the Brits say..."Brilliant".

You can still do screen captures and crop to print but these will be low res shots just like Rene's suggestion above.

Gary....Thats what makes this forum kind of unique. There are so many people here with rich and varied backgrounds. Besides, "image protection" is a pretty hot topic now-days.
