Hi I am pretty new on digital photography. I just got the rebel xti kit but I will like to upgrade my lense. I was thinking on getting the EF 24-105mmf/4L IS USM, but I am not sure if it is compatible with the camera I have. Could anyone help me ? please. If it is not compatible does anyone have a sugestion.
Thank you

I thoroughly recommend this lens, a great walkabout option.

To answer you question, yes, it will fit your XTi. All EF and EF-S lenses will.

EF lenses are compatible with all EOS cameras. EF-S lenses are compatible only with the Rebel XT and XTi and 20D and 30D. (There may be others as well).

Great lens for the XTi. Used it on my XT until I got the 30D...

Wonderful lense. I got one a few days ago... and I like it a lot. Here is a quick sample taken with a 20D.

Superb lens and a great walkaround lens, although you will then be wanting to pair it up with the 10-22mm ultra wide! IS is superb, focusing is almost instantaneous and silent and you will get a respective telephoto end of around 180mm (35mm terms) on your camera. You can take excellent pictures at less than 1/10s handheld with the IS!

The 24-105 is an incredibLe Lens. The reach is great. The IS is great. The coLors are great. The weight is great. You'LL Love it.

A LittLe advise, watch out for L fever.

Yep, you'll like that lens.

Just be ready for the weight of it, quality is pretty weighty!

Just so you get the other side, I was underwhelmed with my copy and sent it back for a refund. It was not very sharp. "Opinions vary".

Where's Ed Rader to warn about the bokeh on this lens? :)

I love mine. Very sharp, very versatile, and a great all around lens for general photography.

Personally I'd wait until you learn the camera with the kit lens before splashing out on this. Once you get to push it's limitations you will really appreciate the step up in quality that this represents. While you are at the stage with your hobby where you can't confidently answer the question "will this lens fit my camera", you may find an initial learning period more beneficial to your photography rather than an initial spending period ;-)

Either way, enjoy your camera and don't forget to post some pictures :-)

Hi, as everyone has said it is compatible, and I love mine, but. . . . as lemminglover has pointed out, it's a lot to drop on a lens if you're not sure the focal range is right - you miss out on decent wideangle with it - it's a 35mm equivalent of 38.4m - 168mm - you may be better off with the Canon 17-55 f/2.8, or the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, or the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 - they're all superb lenses, and have excellent image quality.

This is a decent lens. Just realize that it is f/4 and what the consequences of that is. I would not own it without a fast prime to use in low light and when I want to stop action, however.

It's a great lens, but just not wide enough for me on reduced sensor cameras. I would need at least a 17 or 18mm wide end to be useful as a walkaround lens. Otherwise I would be constantly switching lenses between a true wide angle and the 24-105.

This is what I have been thinking, I'm not sure a 24mm is wide enough for a general walk around. Otherwise I would be all over this lens.

Then your other "best choce" is the 17-55IS.
That's what I would get for a 1.6x crop body.
