I'm considering taking on school pictures as an added service. I'd like to hear from experienced shool photographers on their choice of software usage.

I'm looking for opinions on the use and feedback of commercial software, basic Canon software (remote capture) or your own personal workflow. (anything utilizing tethered shooting and basic student info)

Please feel free to comment if you think you have a unique workflow worth mentioning using other methods.

Hopefully, this will become a valuable thread. ;)

Yes, I attempted several searches, but had no luck.

Edit: I mean image management/shooting tether-ware. ;)

Thanks in advance for participating.

I don't understand what you mean by your post... are you trying to say you are taking a photography class, or taking photo's FOR the school?

I mean software like "School Days+ (http://www.desktopdarkroom.com/pdi_photolynx.html)"... stuff like that...

Canon Remote capture is FREE with your camera, why not just use it? That Scholl Days+ seems like an awful expensive solution to problem that doesn't really exsist. I generally don't shoot tethered anyway... I shoot, and record the file numbers to the envelopes as I go, and later I use GPA to do the package fullfillments.

Wow! I never thought about using an online company to print school pictures...

Anyway, I took a few shots of a friend of mine. She had on her school uniform and i had my Rebel XT (350d) w/ 50mm f/1.4... Anyway, the picture came out very nice. I have a Mac Book and I used a program calld "Comic Life Software". This program has over 50 templates and the ability to add text (student's name) on the photograph. Once saved, you can drag this image on to a card and take it to the local printing center.

They charge me $0.15 for 4x6, $0.99 for 5x7, and $ 2.99 for 8x10. The prints are great and you can choose any type of paper you like.

I will enclosed the pics later...

i currently work for a company specializing in school photos
we shot both individual student photos and class groups
the software used for the individual's is called Timestone Capturepost
we have barcode's printed on the child's payment envelope and the barcode is scanned, the order scanned (class photo, individual, class composite etc) and the photo is taken
back at the office each photo has a name and an order attached

be aware though - capture post is very expensive, and it isnt a one of purchase, you have to renew it every year
