Just curious if people are selling their high res digital images from sporting events. I've noticed on some sites, they offer a cd of 10-15 pictures for about $55 or so. what if you only had 1 picture of the individual....

.....so how much per image would you charge?

sorry if this already been asked/answered.

I charge for a CD of 1 image $15.00 plus the cost of the CD so normally it ends up being $17.00 . I also, however normally require them to purchase a 8 x 12 of the same image for $10.00 so I end of making about $22.78 for just a bit of work, which I love!

I charge $27.50 for 1, or they can purchase 5 for $75.

Each image is post-processed just as if I were going to make a print. I'm charging a bit less than double my price for an 8x10.

Hey Jeremy how you doing.
Is this for Little league / high school / other league sports?
I'll email you my little league price list that I'm using next weekend.

Graeme,

Great to hear from you. These are for the Running events (5k, 10k, and duathlon's) we've been photographing. It's mostly adults, though they do have 1 mile kids races at some of the events.

,Jeremy

I do not sell digital in most cases. I know that if I sell my images didgitaly they will be reproduced many times over, now does'nt that kind of say "copywright not inforced".

Jeremy....I pretty much go the same way. I shoot horse events. The first file is $15.00 including CD (I get them for 47 cents each). Each additional file is $10.00. I include a copyright release file on the CD. Works for me.

I agree with you Dale. I never sell CD's. Heck I had a guy take a picture of a disply print. Then I heard he went home and printed it out himself.

I have a shutterfly pro account that I upload my little league soccer/baseball/football/volleyball pics to and give the link to the parents where they can order however many prints and sizes they want. The account lets me set my own price, which I've set at $2.00 for a 4x6, $5.00 for a 5x7, $10.00 for an 8x10, etc. If I do anything fancy during post processing, like make them into trading cards or posters then I charge more. The pics are set to where they cannot rightclick and download them, they can only order prints or photo gifts. So that might be something to think about.

I hope you don't think this is a 'real' deterrent.

This is a good idea! However, i work in the IT department at my job. If you post any picture on the internet, and you disable my print or copy features, I could just click on Print Screen and BANG! I got a free image....

I hope none of my friend get this software.... hahahahahah!! It could be done!!

I work in IT also, have for 12 years. Yes, the right click feature is not foolproof, where there is a will, there is a way, which is true for just about anything. But the not-so-computer-savy people dont realize this.

the no right-click-save-as actually does work to deter theft.

I had an out of state friend call me not to long ago asking about saving an image that a photographer had taken of her. She couldn't right-click-save-as and had no idea about print screen. She wanted to know if there was any other way to get the picture, I said "gee, I'm not sure - why don't you buy it?" Cheap ass friends

And then there is "snag - it"...

Another option is to put a watermark on your images that are being displayed on the net. But that will also entail another piece of the workflow when your clients are ordering. However, that can deter pic theft.

Can you please explain shutterfly pricing breakdown & costs to us.

eg. let say the customer wants (4) 5x7's and (2) 8x10's = $40

add in taxes and s&h - what does shutterfly charge you?

Thanks ;)

I don't sell digital sports images, but to give you an idea of pricing, I sell 15 resized digital senior portrait images for $200 and 30 for $300. If I sold sports pics on CD rather than prints, I'd probably charge about the same thing.

Shutterfly gives you the option to print the word "Proof" across the center of your image or in the four corners, or the word "Copywright" centered on the bottom of the image. So you could set this option as well to deter them from using snag-it or print screen.

I currently charge $17 for 8x12. I started to offer hi-res digital images @ $35. Within minutes of adding that option I had my first digital image sale. The customer told me that his intention was to produce a 20x30 with it. Which is ok because of my profit margin. I don't sell cd's of more than 1 image. But they can buy all the digital images they want @ $35 a piece though.
