Is there a reliable charger that works for charging the BP511 in your vehicle?

I picked one up on ebay a while back. It seems to work well.

I may part with it if interested. I no longer have a need for the BP511s.

I have a 110vAC outlet in the console of my 04 4 Runner Limited, so that makes it really easy!

Before that I just had a little inverter which worked really well, and was usefull for other things, like recharging our talk-about walkie talkies, etc.

I got one off of eBay as well. It came with both - a 110 volt adapter for the house, and a car cord. It is a Lenmar, but I haven't see that model in a while.

It has already saved my butt once when the other batteries I was carrying were low.

I got a decent one from Green Batteries. It has an AC cord and also a 12VDC cord for the car.

I got an adapter at best buy that turns the car's 12 volt DC into 120 volt AC. It has a plug type outlet that I plug my regular battery charger into. I like this system because I can use the same adapter to charge my flash and cell phone. It cost about $40. You can find it in the car stero section at best buy.

I can't remember wht it is called. It is up in my car right now. I'll post again later with the name.

It's called an 'inverter'. They're very handy, especially on long trips.

I haven't found one that will run my microwave oven without the headlights dimming and the windshield wipers slowing down, however. (kidding).

One thing to watchout for though, make sure your inverter and your equipment needs match. Some equipment, like Alien Bees strobes, do not like modified sine wave inverters. Just an FYI, in case you also wanted to try and run some of your portable studio stuff in the field off an inverter. In most cases battery charges are not affected from my understandin.

Denny - I think you are pretty close to me, if so, you can have the charger I've got. I don't have a need for it anymore.

My Lenmar Mach 1 and my Power 2000 chargers both work fine from mains or 12V. The Lenmar is faster if that's important.

Speaking of wipers slowing down, do you remember vacuum-powered windshield wipers? Sadly, I do, though it was an older car that I remember having them. In fact, it was a 1958 Oldsmobile 88. Weird wipers - you'd step on the throttle and the wipers would slow down as the manifold vacuum dropped.

I remember them from when I was a little kid. As I recall, GM was the last holdout of the Big 3 with vacuum wipers. We were a mostly GM family, except for the '57 Plymouth - the best thing about the car was the hubcaps - all the kids wanted '57 Plymouth hubcaps to spiff up their ride! (Oops, there I go entering geezerville again - an old fart telling war stories)

Actually, I "bit the bullet" and purchased the Canon setup (CR-560) when I first bought my G2 and have used it ever since as my primary charger. You can use it either plugged into an AC source or via lighter adapter for a car. I used it to put the first charge on my DRebel battery while we drove from the store to a long lunch and then to the gardens. By then, the charger had done its work on the battery.

I looked at the Canon when I got my G3, but I just couldn't pull the trigger on that one - too much $$$. So far, my Lenmar is doing the job for me in the car. I hope it learns a few lessons from the Energizer Bunny.

I also choked when I saw the price, but found it for around $100 and felt that the ability to charge 2 (albeit sequentially) batteries either at home or on the road had meaningful advantages for me. I take the charger on trips and can either charge as I drive or at the hotel over night.

With the G2 now my wife's and the DRebel as my camera, I can charge both overnight and be ready in the morning.
