LOL everyone is so intimidated to post on this site. The funny thing is that everyone here is really supportive. We usually find something we like about all of the pictures and offer ways to make them better. The flower is a very nice shot. The dog looks a little soft though. It looks like the camera was focused on the bed and not the pooch.

I will try to be gentle. Welcome to POTN !
Although the dog photo probably has an emotional tie to you it lacks any captivating elements to an outside party IMO. It looks kind of soft and the light on his face doesn't highlight his eyes. Also, there needs to be more space on the left for him to look into.
I don't know much about flower shots but find the white spots on the right distracting as well as the green leaf on the left. Maybe try cloning them out. The flower as a whole looks like it could use a levels, curve adjustment to add more contrast and make it seperate a tad from the background.

You can elect to allow image editing from others if you so wish. I played with your flower but am not permitted to post it per forum rules. But I am no means a photoshop guru like some others here.

For better or worse. Probably over sharpened it in hindsight.

What did you use on the background to make the rocks disappear? I kept trying to do it but I think I may have an inferior software......what software do you use? I really appreciate the help as I am just starting out.

nice job on the edit, taking the blur tool and setting it fairly large at 25% opacity and running it over the outside edges of the flower would finish it up very nicely.
also when using usm on flowers try to increase the radius to about 2-4 to bring out the larger contrast items then go back and use .3 to .4 to bring out the smaller patterns as needed.
The original was about 1-2 stops under exposed.

Thanks for the suggestions. Probably should not be trying to do this as the same time I am pressure washing my house.:lol:
By adjusting levels got rid of most of the rocks. I then cloned the remainder out using Photoshop CS2.

very nice :}
the final touch would be to emliniate the light spots on the right side.
btw if you have a pic like this printed tell them no color correction or go over the black areas and paint them black.
