Yes, it's Autumn on my side of the globe. Wanted to get some good landscapes, but haven't got anything workable yet, so just did some work with the tree in the backyard as the sun set this evening.

1. Here's an overview of what I had to work with

2. Started with the 17-55

3. Then from here on in I decided to use the 70-200

4. Green

5. Yellow

6. Red

Let me know how to improve, thanks.

my 2 faves are the 17-55 ones, number one is the best by my preference
it just feels breezy and fresh and golden and clean, the second one was a bit shadowy perhaps

the 70-200's were not bad, but the leaves lacked cripsness in the detail in the veins and the shadows were a bit heavy in the green one. did you have the leaves backlit by the sun? that usually gives a nice vein pattern and vivid colours
another tip with stuff like tight focus flowers/leaves etc is to move around until the background blur has some complementary or interesting patterns and colours in it, then recompose your shot and capture the subject

i dont want to hijack your thread, and you might feel im talking out the side of my head when you see it (LOL) but ill post a recent leaf shot (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3192987&postcount=22142) in the main gkpe thread to illustrate what i mean regarding vein structure etc

Thanks for the thoughts SS.

I never considered the bright breezy look. Spring's light and brezzy - I wanted to portray the side of Autumn that represents the onset of Winter, so went more dark and contrasty.

Numbers 1 and 5 are my favourites.
I love how you've captured all the different coloured leaves from the tree.

in that case youve done a good job of it :-)

See, I never really was a big fan of 1 and 2, I posted them as more of a scene setting image. Looks like my eye might need an adjust!

I'll refine my technique and get a few more tight ones so I can mount them as a set of three - green, yellow, red.

Leaves are still falling. Was able to isolate this one with a ray of setting sun, so pp, 'cept border obviously...

Love your photos! The 70-200 F4L looks to be a really good lens! I am happy I will be purchasing this lens very soon :D.
