I do own a Canon lens - and I would own a 10D if only they hadn't managed to mix my order up with someone else's, sending me an Ixus 500, and my 10D to Cardiff :(

We've downloaded the manual to read in the meantime, and I'm sorry, but I'm hoping it rains all weekend, because then I won't feel so bad about not having my shiny new camera :)

NO you may not. Its like bringing a knife to a gunfight. (can ya tell I'm American). Like wearing rollerblades to ice hockey. Bringing a hooker to your own wedding. Close but no cigar. So I'm takin my 300D and Elan IIe and going home. (Don't mention the fact I have two Olympus' too)

If would be pretty tough to play without the camera, but at least you've got the manual and can study a bit. If something's confusing try the Search function above, and if it's still confusing then feel free to ask us.

Well, OK, you could skip the Search step but if you do that too often then we might get mad. :D

I'll wager the fellow that got the DSLR instead of the IXUS isn't complaining. It's all relative.

Manuals are useless without the camera. I read all about my new camera before it actually arrived (I had weeks), and it was still bewildering when I first looked at it 'in the flesh'.

I suggest you use this time to practice really cool photographer-like poses. Stand in front of the mirror and snap pictures with a make-believe camera (don't forget to say 'click'). Pay particular attention to those positions that make you look like you really know what you're doing. Remember: experienced photographers are very casual in their demeanor. There's no reason you can't master that part of the business before you actually have your camera.

Learn to swagger. Most people will never see your photos, but they will see you.

There's also the outside chance that he's totally befuddled, trying to figure out how to shoot pictures without a lens. ;)

Yes - that's the part I never really got right. Its hard to look cool when you run out the front door every 10 minutes with a different lens, only to take a series of pictures of the same boring electrical equipment across the street. And you do this 3 days in a row.

Thanks guys, that really made me laugh - and I needed a good laugh after the disappointment

The good news is, they've despatched another camera today, so I should get it on Monday.

Well, that's good! Will they let you keep the Ixus-500 as well? Its a sweet little pocket camera (well, my 400 is though its been ignored for the most part since I got the 10D).

That is good news. You'll find the real 'click' much more satisfying than the make-believe version in just about every way.

Three more days to practice poses!!

Well, I think we can guess why I'm not married. Now lets just move on... ;)
