I emailed Canon today about the soft focus switch on that lens. It has 3 click-stops "0", "1" and "2". However, I can actually set it anywhere between 0 and 1 or 1 and 2 (between click stops). I was wondering if the lens will continue to operate properly if I do that.
The response from Canon came surprisingly fast, but I'm kind of puzzled by it. To me it sounds like an intelligent way to say "we have no idea how this thing works":
"It may be possible to position this between 0 and 1 or 1 and 2, however
we cannot guarantee proper operation. We can only provide support when you use the 0, 1, or 2 setting, not in between."
