I'm not one for the color and black & white images but I felt like doing it with this image and it came out better than i hoped.

I really like what your doing with the selective color, it looks like a sunglass advertisement. The crop is done nicely too. I don't really like that you are in the reflection in the sunglasses.

True but I really wasn't about to take the time to remove me. I might later on but not today.

I really like this picture. I am brand new to this whole photography thing. How did you do this? Did you use a certain software in order to create the B&W with the colored sunglasses and how did you manage to get your reflection to show up? You also mentioned that you could have removed your reflection how? Sorry to ask so many questions but as I said I am brand new to this and very eager to learn more!!!! I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I also wondered if you or someone could spare a moment to share some knowledge with me and tell me how to do other things like take a picture and have the background kind of fuzzy so that the one thing that I am focusing on is really all that I can see clearly. For instance if I took a picture of my five month old twins on the sofa; however, I really don't want to see the sofa cleary what should I do? If anyone has anything that they would like to share I would much appreciate it!!!!!!!! Kimberly

^^ um okay I'll take this one question at a time... first sorry for replying late I'm about ready to get going on a tour with Crazy People (http://www.myspace.com/vivalawildass).
First thin i did was shot this digitaly in color with my 1d Mark 2 ... croped it just above her lips it was like 1x3 crop i think or 2.5 dont rememeber ... either way
I made to versions from the RAW file ... one color and one black and white.
Then I put the black and white one over the color version and made a selection ... aka erased the black and white lens so that the colored ones would show. there are many ways to do this but thats how i did.
kim what your talking about with your kid is about depth of field
depth of field changes depending on your lens and f stop
heres a good link for you LINK (http://wiki.photoblogs.org/wiki/Photography_101)
so lets say you have your lens and its a 50mm 1.4 F lens you open it up to that your DOF dept of field will be very small like a few inchs maybe.
also later you can blur out the image and do the same thing i did with the sunglasses.

Look on the bright side. It's probably the most creative self-portrait yet!

i ilike this picture a lot.
do you have any tricks or tips for doing the tedious work of selecting areas with hair involved? I've tryied something similar with hair involved but ran into issues with selecting areas.
again, nice work.

If you work on a number of images in post (particularly in Photoshop); you may want to consider investing in a Wacom tablet. I use an Intuos3 and would now be lost if I had to use just a mouse and keyboard on a montage.
Selecting hair is always tricky, but if there's enough contrast between the hair and surrounding objects, you could use the channels pallet and the magic wand tool. Make your selection using the shift+click on the image through channel that contrasts the most, feather your selection and there you have it. Use the smudge tool sparingly to brush back in any parts of the hair that was lost.
Alternatively, you could use the background eraser tool on a duplicate layer.
Lastly, you can also unleash the power of Layer Masks

You tried to close it with quote instead of /quote :)
Nice shot.
I wont say anything about the reflection, as most others have said it before, but I really like the shot. The selective color works well with this one.
