They put a cover over when they polish it or that's what I've seen.

Wow very interesting !!!! I had wondered how they cleaned it .Yes I was there a little after 6:30 in the morning so to make sure not many people were around.

When the bean was first built, there were obvious seams in the surface where the plates were welded together. The tent was put over the bean only for final polishing out of these seams, not for regular cleaning.

Now we know Very Cool, I was wondering if they put a tent up around it every time they cleaned it would seem to be alot of work just for cleaning

Yeah I didn’t think it was regular cleaning but rather for some finishing touches. The other time I've seen it with a cover over it there were a bunch of guys in white suites with respirators and polishing tools on scaffolding around the bean. The seams were obvious too.

Found some more interesting info about Cloud Gate on Wikipedia. It was dedicated on May 15, 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_Gate
Also forgot to say that the blown out sky works nice in contrast to the image on the bean in the first picture, for me anyways.

Wow thanks for that link . very interesting !!!! Yeah couldnt avoid the blown out sky shooting into it like that but it did work out with a decent result.
