Hey guys....I searched the forums and couldnt find exactly what I was looking for...I didnt want to post if this question has already been asked....but I couldt find an answer.

So....I am hiring a Hair Stylist/Makeup Artist....(She does both) and I am wondering how much she should get paid...???

I am thinking of paying her per session since I dont need her hourly or anything like that...but I want to know what you all are paying your stylist...as I want to be fair to her and me at the same time....

Do most of you offer the client to do the shoot with or without a stylist.....or do you all just always shoot with one no matter what?

Thx for your time guys...

I know I am new to the forum......Maybe if someone could point me to a thread that has already dealt with this before....

Does $35.00 hr sound right....or should it be more...like $45.00 to $65.00

Any help would be appreciaed....

Thx
Janey

I don't know the answer to your question, but perhaps you'll get more attention in the Glamour and Nude section. You don't have the post count, but you could check with the mods to see about getting your question there.

Depends on if they are union scale.

A MUA and Stylist usually get paid by the job. It doesn't matter how long the job is but does matter how the images are to be used. I find that a Commerial Shoot runs about $650. for the job while model tests are generally $250 for three looks. In my experience, if they quote an hourly rate they are new to the business. You aren't charging by the hour are you? I do not, but establish the fee by the way the Client is using my images.

I guess to a large extent it is also one of those things that can be location based, experience based, and perhaps even shoot based.

I have a make up artist/hair stylist for my "Fashion" make over shoots in studio. She gets paid $30 per session, and she usually takes about 45mins to an hour. She is 20, and while she is very very good, she is a student attaining her qialifications, not an experienced-in-the-industry-for-years pro. So what we pay her is a comfortable figure for the both us and her.

I think some things to take into account are also if your make up artist is providing all the make up, or if you are buying all of that yourself. We provide the make up, hair products, sponges, disposable make up applicaters etc etc.

Hope this has been of some help!

Cheers,
Naomi
