My son probably used to play with some of those boys. We lived up at Beaver Lake. It was a dang long time ago though so I doubt I would recognize any of them. Nice work. Got to love that nice diffuse NW light. Cheers.

#4 Is just gross. I love baseball, but the dipping and chewing aspect of the game is disguisting. It's worse than a cigarette smoker(which I was 6 years ago). Sad thing is the high school kids are chewing, dipping, etc and it is an awful habit for people so young. BTW, you got some good grabs.

As a long time baseball player and snuff dipper, I believe you are confused.

That is not tobacco spit

Spitting is a huge part of baseball and althouth tobacco used to be the primary supplier of it that is not the case anymore.

I thought it was a great pic

Also there is not a Governing body in HS athletics that allows anyone to chew or dip tobacco on the field

If that spit is it's normal color, he is not human or needs a physical. That has to be some kind of tobacco, chew or whatever. That is not normal spit. Again, I wasnt knocking the technical aspect of the image and I gave him a compliment at the end of my statement. I was speaking about the discolored spit coming out of the guy's mouth.

They still dip a lot, but there's regulations in the minor leagues now against it and they have the "tobacco police" that sit in the stands with binoculars looking for players dipping, then during the game they go into the locker rooms looking in lockers for dip (they are not allowed to move anything, just look - but if its in site, you're busted). That's definately dip though unless he's chewing chocolate, in college we used those pouches that looked like the tobacco pouches but were flavored, got busted a few times but just had to give the ump one to show it wasn't tobacco. I can't count how many times I've almost gotten spit on in the dugout from chew spit flying my way, there's always 4-5 guys on the team at least. And I'm not sure it's at all levels, or just in games - because in several occassions I see guys dipping during BP or before the game without trying to hide it - triple A a lot.

Nice pics Ronnie, doesn't look like you lost much at all with the 1.4 and good action as well. Maybe a bit more saturation, or its my monitor, or I like saturation, either way :) Nice job.

Thanks, Croasdail.

The area around Issaquah has really blown up. There are two high schools on the Sammamish Plateau (by Pine Lake) that sit about a mile apart.

It was your typical overcast day in the NW. Great for taking pictures, but I still managed to shoot too hot and now notice CA in some of the pics.

I am not the "tobacco police" but I have a good eye for spying dippers. While the ump's spit is discolored, I don't believe he was dipping, though he was swirling something in his mouth from time to time. Plus, he's the head umpire and I would be surprised if he'd risk getting caught.

The "dip police" came into existence my second or third year of pro ball. I played at every level except for the big leagues and I never heard of any player getting fined for tobacco use. I understand baseball wanting to keep it off the field and out of sight from the kids, but I think they went a little too far. Shoot, when I played, the "dip police" could even nab a player on the bus or in their hotel room, per the rules.

Still getting the funky bokeh, but I like what the 1.4 brings to the table. I cranked up the ISO on a few of these (400, some 800) so the noise may play a part in lack of saturation. As fars as PP, just cropped and sharpened.

Good captures Ronnie!

Thanks, Jimmy. Can't wait to shoot some racecars.

More great photos, Ronnie! You're showing members here who aren't familiar with the game some of the behind the scenes stuff too -- like the grounds crew tapping the pithcher's mound and the ump spitting. I'd prefer the ump pic didn't have the spit though then perhaps our attention would be on that fresh cheekbone scar - scars, cuts, blood, bruises and broken bones are common in the game too. #7 is my favorite even though his eyes aren't on the ball -- but then I'm a tog not a coach ;) .
