1 Sigma 18-200.
2 the combination of EF50f1.8 and EF-S18-55.
3 EF-S60mm .
4 SP Af 17-50 Tamron.
5 EF70-300IS , which I almost never used .
6 Sigma 30mm EX macro.
7 All my point and shoot cameras including Canon SD600, Nikon P5000 , Kodak P880 , Panasonic TZ3 and FX07 with my EF70-300IS and my Nifty?

I need to keep my 17-85IS ,which I use 90percent , and I like the Tamron 17-50 and they are sharing the same 67mm filter.

The Canon EF-S60mm is very nice for portraiture and city-scapes , I like it very much but I may need to get rid of it because of useless focal length .

The EF70-300IS , I thought I 'd use it but I would not use it.
I already got rid of a few lenses (EF85f1.8, EF35mm f2 and Sigma 70mm EX macro, which extends itself too long ).

I usually shoot flowers, people , city-scapes , pop-art kind of stuffs and still life.

I dont like landscapes and I think I will not shoot any really serious macro , but I like moderate size of flwoers or like that.

Please vote for which lens to get rid of or a combination of a few lenses .

I already decided to sell mySD600 ,FZ50 and KodakP880 , all of which I never use .

Should I sell the Nifty ? I like to sell it off but I am afraid if any one buys it .

What about the kit?

Any advice appreciated.

I'd keep the 60, the 17-50, the 30, and the Sd600.

17-85 and 17-50 seem redundant. I'd keep the Tammy cuz it's faster and sharper.

You don't need nifty because the macro is way better in a close FL.

You don't need the kit, because you have the 17-50.

You don't use the 70-300...toss it.

I find the SD600 the nicest and easiest to use of the P&S models you listed...also the smallest.

Hi Derek,

1 Sigma 18-200.
Do you use this lens? If not, sell it.
2 the combination of EF50f1.8 and EF-S18-55.
Personally, I would sell both, but then keep the Tamron 17-50.
3 EF-S60mm .
4 SP Af 17-50 Tamron.
Both keepers, provided, for the Tamron anyway, you'd sell the 50 F/1.8 and the kit lens.
5 EF70-300IS , which I almost never used .
For a trip to China I would definitely keep it, or exchange it for a 70-200 F/4 L, either IS (preferred) or non-IS. In a country like China, you WILL find a use for a telezoom, I am pretty sure.
6 Sigma 30mm EX macro.
I am the wrong person to answer this, as I am not a Sigma fan. :)
7 All my point and shoot cameras including Canon SD600, Nikon P5000 , Kodak P880 , Panasonic TZ3 and FX07 with my EF70-300IS and my Nifty?
I would keep the TZ3, it is the most universal, at 28-280 equivalent, and compact to boot. And the EF 70-300IS, of course.
I need to keep my 17-85IS ,which I use 90percent , and I like the Tamron 17-50 and they are sharing the same 67mm filter.
I made you keep both :).
The Canon EF-S60mm is very nice for portraiture and city-scapes , I like it very much but I may need to get rid of it because of useless focal length .
You say you shoot flowers; it is light, very sharp, fairly large aperture, it doubles for portraits, so why get rid of it?
The EF70-300IS , I thought I 'd use it but I would not use it.
Well, it is a perfect companion for the 17-85, just in case you need it, and I would expect you to use it in China. Large country, great opportunities for compressed landscapes, candids, portraits, details of any kind, architecture, market, you name it, etc.

After my striking out in the list, you would still have:
3 EF-S60mm .
4 SP Af 17-50 Tamron.
5 EF70-300IS , which I almost never used .
6 Sigma 30mm EX macro.
7 Panasonic TZ3
And the EF-S 17-85 IS of course.

If you really do find the 17-85 to be good enough for you, you might consider striking the Tamron off as well, but maybe keeping the 50 F/1.8. Gives you three (light) primes and 2 zooms, which cover 17-300 mm. Otherwise it is 1 or 2 primes and 3 zooms.

Please vote for which lens to get rid of or a combination of a few lenses .

I already decided to sell mySD600 ,FZ50 and KodakP880 , all of which I never use .

Keep the TZ3, I would say.

Should I sell the Nifty ? I like to sell it off but I am afraid if any one buys it . Why?

Sell. This one is the easiest, you already have a Tamron 17-50 and an EF-S 17-85 IS. How many more zooms in this range do you require? Even two is a bit of overkill, although the 17-85 has a longer range and IS, while the Tamron has F/2.8.

Any advice appreciated.

I don't know what to tell you about which lenses to sell, but how about for your trip just picking up the new 18-200 OS and the 30f1.4? That should have you covered for most applications and at the same time being lightweight. That new 18-200 OS has SLD glass, MFD of 18", and reproduces a 1:4 lifesize image. Not bad! [Although I don't know that it's available yet ]

There are many options and possibilities of lenses to bring, but I'm merely suggesting a lightweight, no worries dynamic-duo. I just know when I travel, I like to go light and as basic as possible.

i would sell the sigma 18-200, the kit lens, the nifty, and all but one of the point and shoots. that much seems obvious. I would reccomend picking either the 17-50 or the 17-85, they are fairly redundant, id probably pick the 17-50 for the wider ap, but they are your lenses so you know which one you like more. i would keep the macro for sure, seems an obvious choice for what you like doing. I would keep the sigma 30 for very lowlight situations. I would want at least some telephoto, the 70-300 seems like a nice one at that.

I'd keep the 17-50 (or the 17-85 IS), 70-300 IS, 60 macro, and the 30.

I own the Sigma 30, f/1.4 and absolutely love it!

since it's kind of misty most of the time here in China i do prefer a lense with good contrast/color saturation.. which is one reason, why i enjoy shooting with the 30mm..

i'd get rid of the 18-200 (although it's very versatile) and the 60mm macro (i've tested it and was very disappointed with it).. u might be happy with the 60mm though..

i'd also ditch the kit lense but keep the 50mm, since i appreciate fixed focal lengths..
then again the Tamron 17-50 is supposed to be a superb lense.. so, why to keep the other two?!?

regarding the 70-300 i cannot really judge it.. but i do miss a lense on the longer end in my portfolio for street shots.. and shooting ppl on the street here is quite a bit of fun!

oh, and i'd keep one P&S cam..

just my personal opinion....

Thanks alot , actually , I have 4 17-something zooms;the17-85IS,17-40L(sharing with my father), 17-50 ,18-55 and 17-55IS(my sister's but I can use it ).

I tink the 17-55 has great IQ but the BQ at the price is very very very insufficient at least, I am suggesting my Sister to sell it , but she says she loves it.

I do not like the 17-40L can not say this in front of my dad, but it is very heavy and short , the range is extremely boring, I though the 50 and 40 are not so different but the views are very different , but if it were a bit lighter , I'd love it.

The Nifty is a difficult lens to sell , since a new Nifty is so cheap , and the kit seems unable to sell ..........I just give them a way maybe .

Do you know how the Ef70-200f4 IS compares to the EF70-300IS?

I think I only need as long as 200mm so if the IQ of the 70-200L IS is much better than the 70-300IS , I will try to get it when I get money .

I just sold the FZ50 to a local shop for about 12.000baht , they dont want to buy my Canon A620 but bought the FZ and Kodak P880 for 7000baht.

The Kodak was more expensive than the Pansonic when I bought it so I was shcoked how cheap it is now..

Thank you for your detailed reply.

Thaks for your advice , the OS is available in Japan and the US but not in Asia(maybe in China too but not available in SE Asia) .

Do you think any one buys the EF50f1.8 , which I really hate because of the AF?

This lens just hunts never focuses on anything when the light is low and I think it is supposed to be a low light lens?

Will you buy the OS ?

I would like to see you compare it against the 17-50..

I'll probably pass on the 18-200 OS, as "all-around" as it will be for general photog. I'm sure it will sell very well though, if the 18-200 VR is any indication. As for comparing it to the 1750f2.8, that won't happen. They are just too different in use and ability. I don't consider them in the same category. But maybe someone else will do it.

Hi Derek,

Just a quick reply :).
Do you know how the Ef70-200f4 IS compares to the EF70-300IS?

I think I only need as long as 200mm so if the IQ of the 70-200L IS is much better than the 70-300IS , I will try to get it when I get money .

Well, in that case get the 70-200. It has L build quality, which you seem to like a lot, and although the 70-300 is very good at 70-200, the 70-200 L beats it, plus the IS version has the latest, 4-stop IS, and is still a very manageable lens, for size and weight. Of course it is a little more conspicuous than the 70-300 IS :).

The 70-200 F/4 L IS, just like its brethren and sister, has truly eye-popping IQ.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

It's only a pleasure.

Kind regards, Wim.

Hi Andy , thanks for your input .

One question:

Why did you get so disappointed with the macro lens?

Derek,
I am used to the contrast and sharpness of my Sigma 30mm, which stays on my camera most of the time. That one day some friends and me checked out several lenses. Amongst others the EF-S 60mm Macro and the 50mm, f/1.4.

Compared with the 30 or 50 I was really disappointed about Contrast and Color Saturation of the 60mm. Sharpness, I guess was ok. The biggest problem was the unability to focus correctly.. It either couldn't focus or focussed inaccurately.

Maybe it was a bad copy, but I was highly disappointed..
