Has anyone had any experience with Hitachi Microdrives? 2 or 4 GB. From what I have found, they have a transfer rate of over 7mb per second, which is the quickest I have found. Do they live up to the hype? Is the speed difference noticeable? Will it get me a coke and do my windows (XP that is)?

I have a 2 GB hitachi microdrive for my 300D. I have not done any speedtests but I am ok with the speed.

In the Rebel the Hitachi won't break any seped records. So get the MD for price Vs. Capacity.. nit for speed.

If it is speed you are looking for.. check Rab Galbraith's CF data base for the DRebel...

I have also been curious about the Hitachi microdrives for use in my Digital Rebel. I wonder how they compare to CF cards in terms of battery power consumption and, since they are spinning hard drives, how well they stand-up to normal bumps. Does anyone have any knowledge of these issues?

They say it does consume more power than solid state CF, however I have yet to find out how much more. I have the 1 GB version and am completely satisfied with it. Well, it could be faster, but I didn't buy a microdrive for speed.

Don't know about the 2GB microdrive but the 4GB Hitachi is vilely slow in the 10D. It is much slower than my 1GB microdrive. I suspect the 10D (and Rebel?) has real problems with FAT32 performance.

I checked speeds, and I think I am going to stick with the Sandisk Extremes for a while. I can suffer through downloads every 2 gig.
