I know the D30 is available for two years now and more and more is coming to the secondhand market.
My question is about the following: how thrustworthy is a secondhanded D30?? since you hear numbers of 10000 or 20000 pics one have taken with the camera. How durable is a D30 shutter? What are your personal experiances with the durability of the shutter as first hand users? Ever replaced one in the time you have the camera?

I'm in a position to buy a second handed D30 and I don't want to buy one where I can only take a couple of thousand pics more because of being a second user. Even though it's second handed. it's still a lot of money to me. That's why I'm asking this.

I was told that the shutter is good for 125,000 to 150,000 shots.

Consumer level SLRs generally have shutter MTBF figure of 50000. A professional body is equipped with more durable shutter. For example EOS1D shutter MTBF is 150000. Now D30 is somewhere in between Pro and consumer level. Hopefully it's shutter is also rated in between :D

In any case, it should not be worse than 50000. So if you get a Camera with 10000 clicks, you will still have 40000 great shots to go. I do not know your shooting habit, but 40000 shots may provide you many happy years of usage.

Do not worry about shutter MTBF figure, else you may lose your good nights sleep if you see the MTBF of a USM focussing mechanism!
