Superb pics :)
Is that the F3 Tornado? Is it true they placed bricks in the radome as the Foxhunter radar doesn't work so well?

The first and last pics are F3's, the second one down is a GR4. Not sure about the 'bricks in the randome' rumour, so I can't answer that one... but I know a man who can, so I'll find out.

I think the rumour is true: during it's development, it was bags of cement placed in the nosecone for ballast until the Foxhunter was operational.
Still, awesome shots nonetheless.

The did pretty much the same thing with the Typhoon, replacing the gun with concrete for balance, which didn't work very well. They then decided it was better to have the gun, but not buy the ammunition for it, only to later decide that if you had the gun, you might as well have the ammo too!

As a man who DOES know, your data is (nearly) accurate but nearly 20 years out of date ;)
Leedslad,
so how did you get the opportunity and what were you flying in?

Yes it was true during the early years. It was nicknamed the "Blue Circle Radar" after the Blue Circle Cement Company. :D
