I have been looking at the forum and found some good detail information about this new lens. I just have a few questions that I need answered. One, does anyone have any updates on the release date of this lens? I am itching to get my second L lens and have seen that the lens was supposed to be out in March, then April and now June. Is June still the new date? Second, I have seen the "list price" of the lens will be $2499. So will that be like the 100-400 which on B&H the list price is $2400, but the B&H price is about $1400 making this new lens about $1400 as well? One of my friends is pushing me towards the 35-350, but I have heard it is quite a soft lens and I am a real stickler for getting the sharpest picture I can. So thats all I have for now. Please partake in the poll on this post to help me with my decision for a new L lens. Thanx!!!

Yes, it will be out by June. For sure.

The only question is: What year?

The 35-350 can not compare to the 100-400.. it is heavier.. lacks IS nad is not so "sharp" ... and it costs more..

Though it remains to be seen.. I suspect the 28-300mm is very unlikely to compete with the 100-400mm for pure image quality as well...

You should be able to decide whats best of these two for your use right now...

They are very different lenses.

The 100-400 is a long telephoto... the 28-300mm is a "do everything" lens... sort of a jack of all trades..

But you know what they say about Jack? He is the "Master" of none.

Thus.. the 100-400mm will likely wipe up the floor with the 28-300mm at the long end.. but if what you want is one do evrything lens.. well the obvious choice is the 28-300mm...

I have the new lens and it will cost you $2400. I recently did a shoot with a rider on a Harley while he was moving for good background blur. The panning mode on image stabilization is wonderful. The shots taken with a 10D body were sharp and the saturation was good. I have to recommend it overall.
