Me getting fired 2 days before traveling to Indy for F1 (the day it sucked) and then getting my refund for a race I never went to.

Saw the Queen and Sir Gretzky at a Canucks opener once.

Sitting with Macho Man to my left and Ron Jeremy to my right in the VIP lounge at the SanDiego Xgames was pretty bad ass. Macho Man is huge and smells good. Ron, not so much.

The magical run the Montreal Canadiens went on in 1993 to win the Stanley Cup winning 10 straight sudden death overtime games. I watched the whole playoffs on my knees!

Game 5 of the 1976 NBA finals. Boston Celtics over the Phoenix Suns in triple overtime. Considered by many to be the greatest NBA game ever. Watched with a friend in Phoenix. What a game! Most memorable event that I saw in person was at Dodger stadium in the mid 70's. Not even part of the game, but something I'll never forget. Dodgers were playing the Cubs, and 2 bozo's trotted out to the field and attemted to burn the American flag. Rick Monday was playing outfield for the Cubs, and ran over and snatched the flag away. Crowd went crazy, and the incedent has become part of Dodger lore.

All 7 games (but mostly the last 4) of the ALCS and then the Red Sox going on to win the series in '04.

Kind of the opposite of MDJAK :D

Ahh... coming from behind 3 games to 0 to win 4-3... ahh yes.

P.S. How about those back to back to back to back home runs a while ago? That was awesome.

WOW mine doesnt even compare, but Im posting anyway

Ive never been to a sporting event, either it was bad timing, no money or both.
Ive been a college football fan since I can remember and the team of choice is the Oklahoma Sooners. After cheering them on from the living room for 20 years or so I got to go to a game last Sept.

Not only was it my first game but I was able to see the next big thing here at OU, rb Adrian Peterson (#7 pick to the Vikings) and it was his last year here.
This game we scored 59 while letting the opponents score a massive NOTHING.
And to top it off the big man on campus scored 3 rushing td's.

It was an experience Ill never forget, add the fact that my brother went with me and it was his first time to a game, it was something special.

Well, I'll start with the worst, when the USA team lost the basketball game in the medal round in the Olympics. I was so upset.

My life is full of great sports moments, because I am a really intense fan. Best year was 1969-70 when NYC ruled baseball and basketball. The town was on fire that year.

My personal favorite moment was when my little 4 year old at the time scored his first goal in soccer. :) He still wows me.

thescore.ca is currently doing a knockout style best highlight of all time called "the score 64". There are some incredible plays. It looks like Roberto Carlos' goal might be the greatest of all time. Here's the highlight (vs a Denis Savard goal): http://www.thescore.ca/score64/

and here's the current list of best plays: http://www.thescore.ca/score64/plays.asp

I'm wondering if the OP meant an event you were AT, not sitting watching on TV.

Petkal doesn't count, he was watching sports before TV was invented.

I was wondering if the thread title meant post a picture, not just a description/headline of an event? But then in the OP, no picture was included.

I've gotta say 3, the first one I was in attendance:

1. Joe Carter October 24, 1993 and his World Series winning walk-off homer "touch 'em all Joe, you will never hit a bigger home run"
2. Bobby Orr May 10, 1970 "The Goal"
3. Buffalo Bills 41-38 overtime playoff win over Houston on Jan, 3, 1993; "The Comeback"

That Bills playoff win was my alltime most memorable on the positive side. I couldn't talk for a week from all of my screaming.

Unfortunately, Super Bowl 25 (Bills v Giants) was pverall the most memorable for the wrong reason (wide right).

Miracle On Ice is up there but I was only a teenager at the time and didn't really appreciate it as I do now.

Sitting on the first base line at Safeco Field watching Ichiro collect his 258th hit of the season to break the all-time single season hits record with my two sons sitting on either side of me. :D We were also there for 259 - 262. :D

I'd also post my younger boy's play, as catcher, a great throwdown to second base in little league, 6 years ago; but I don't have the photo to prove it.

In person it has to be August 27th, 2005 at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. With only three minutes remaining and trailing by five points Cooke scores the try which was then converted by Brough to win the Challenge Cup for Hull by a single point. Jumping up so quickly as he crossed the line I almost fainted!

On TV then it is probably the "Wide to West" try. It was the first round of the playoffs in 2000 and St Helens were 11-10 down at home against Bradford. Saints were in attack but still deep in their own half and with fans counting down the last ten seconds of the match. With one second still on the clock they managed to get off a final play, kept the ball alive, and went 70+ metres to score the winning try. Not sure if you are allowed to link to youtube on here, but it is worth going on there to see it, albeit fuzzy blurry online video style.

Away from rugby league, and not so much an happening, but the entire second half of the 2004 ALCS was pretty amazing.

Michael.

I was at the 1976 game between the Philadelphia Flyers (the Broad Street bullies) and the Soviet National Hockey team. I was eight years oold and my dad took me to the game. The Soviet team was touring the US and Canada and beating a lot of NHL teams. Ed Shiro, the coach of the Flyers then, told his team that the Russians will be cute skaters and good passers so they should all just line up on the blue line and knock the sh*t out of the first Soviet player to try to cross into the offensive zone. The Flyers were litterally kicking the sh*t out of this Soviet team. So in the second period the Soviet team leaves the ice and refuses to play. We all waited for over an hour. Finally they were told they would not be paid and they came out and finished the game. One of the few they lost in their US tour.

Second one is that I was at the game where the Philadelphia Phillies won the 1980 World Series. Mike Schmitt, Tug McGraw, Steve Carlton, Larry Bowa, Tim McCarver, The Bull, Bob Boone, etc........I was a big fan as a kid and that was a huge moment to share with my dad, God rest his soul.

I remember it well.
Bob Cole, the lead play-by-play announcer on Hockey Night in Canada made a famous call at this game when the CCCP skated off the ice, "They're going home......Theeey'rree going home !"
For those of us who saw it on HNIC, it rings out as a classic.
