I was asked to shoot my brother's wedding in Westport MA. this past weekend. It was a real learning experience for me, and gives mw some practice before my first paid weddings start rolling in this summer.

I used adobe photoshop elements 5 for the layouts just to get an idea of what the photos will look like on some proper software like Asukabooks.

Anyway, these are just a few of the outdor shots from after the cweremony, taken in a very short time. Please let me know what you think!

good for your first... The skin tones look kind of red. I like the layout but I woudn't use it for more than one page - it looks sort of repetitive to me.

I like the background of the layout but the frames seem a bit rough. They don't seem to match the elegance of the background. I agree with islandphoto it is a bit repetitive. I do like the expressions in the photos. They seem really genuine.

I kina like the "layout" .. unique ..

One thing that I'm not keen on in group shots (my mentor killed me for it) was hands,
or arms around another individual(s) .. such as the gentelman's in the last image,
where he has his right hand placed on the lady in front of him ..

Looks as if she's growing a hand on her neck .. My mentor (and seminars that I've attended)
have been quite critical .. other then that, I really do enjoy the layout .. the images also
are quite nice as well, for your "first" .. I do believe that you're well on your way .. :)

Digi,
That's interesting. while the hand on her shoulder to the left does look a little off....The older woman with her hand on the youngers ( perhaps grandson) shoulder adds a bond between the two! Gives a generational touch to the picture. Certainly better than having her hand stiffly/formally down at her side.

I agree .. and, it's not coming from *behind* ..
My concern with arms and hands that come from behind, just sorta looks outta place.
Sometimes gripping paws seem to gather clothing, crimp suits, or otherwise grow out of people's sides, necks, or heads.

I agree tho .. "grama's" arm does tend to lend a bond ..

I would agree with digigrin on the man's hand on his wife's shoulder. It does look out of place and i simply did not catch it! Mark it up to inexperience on my part.

Verty, you asked if this layout came from Asuka books: it did not, I just grabbed it out of PSE5 to try it once.

I have another wedding coming up in a few weeks. This will be a more traditional wedding with a younger couple. I will have my wife assisting me so she can keep an eye on stray hands and help me with my compositions while I focus on the camera work. I can't wait to try the Canon 70-20 F2.8 IS on the next wedding!

Digi....thanks for the tip. That is the hardest part about groups....trying to work fairly fast ( because time at weddings is at a premium) but catch the little details to make the picture work.
