This is supposed to be the day CDW delivers my MK II. Unfortunately, it is nowhere in sight. Many of you have received your cameras. How many of you are still waiting?

I finally cancelled my order at CDW. They stopped answering my emails and never amended their original ship date---May 10, as you mentioned. I then ordered one from B&H even though they wanted me to prepay. At the time, they were saying 2-3 weeks. At least that sounded like something more definite than what CDW was saying, and a number of people who had actually gotten theirs had indeed gotten them from B&H.

About a week after I ordered the camera from B&H, I got a tip on a possible source in the Los Angeles area which turned out to be good. I cancelled the B&H order and they credited the $4500 back to my credit card, no questions asked.

It's going to be another week or two. My rep talked with Canon early last week and the first shipments, as we knew, would go to top Canon outlets, such as B&H. CDW gets part of the next batch which is due in another week or two.

Patience sucks sometimes eh? ;)

I also cancelled my CDW order. Same as Tom, I was frustrated with emails and phone calls not being returned. I've had pretty good luck with Samy's Camera in Los Angeles. I've done a fair bit of business with them, and was able to get them through the folks there. I've had average to poor service at the Santa Ana store, but truely excellent service at the Fairfax store. Guess that comes with the volume of business I've been doing there.

To be honest, although sometimes this doesn't seem fair, try and hook up in your local area with someone that does volume work with a store and see if they can help you out. Or if you and a few friends intend to buy, check if that gets you further up the list.

I know some folks have mentioned that being a large corporate acct holder didn't help them get priority, but if you know the sales staff well enough and do consistent business somewhere, that loyalty tends to get rewarded.

Got an update today. I am now 3rd on the list now (was 13) behind someone who ordered Feb. 16 and someone who ordered an hour before me on the 19th. Rep said it would now be JULY OR AUGUST. Time to go back to work. Thanks for the info. It is disappointing though. While Rep always said May, I believed JUNE.

Hearing about all of the fun those of you that have received yours are having makes me want it even more. The wonder of the Internet is that I am sure that I will find one.

The retailers aren't interested in who you are or what you want to do with the camera, you are a sale to them - unless you are AP, Sports Illustrated, The FBI, or another big customer that represents lots of sales. You searched it out, you get to have one first. Enjoy it.

I deal with Mike and he's been upfront and honest the entire time. July or August is a crock. Canon told him (personally) a week ago that it'd be 2-3 weeks. That means between next week and the end of the month.

And just to set the record straight I did not go with CDW because I'd get one of the first cameras, but because I got a great price. See all these folks with MKII's tries the patience for sure, but I'm confident that they will get them in the next 2 weeks.

That being said I also didn't think they'd be this far down Canon's list and I have the camera (also) on order at two other places and a good friend working on another possibility.

I'd love to have the camera by next weekend for my first Jet Sprint shoot, but I don't know if that is going to happen. At least I still have my 10D.

That being said, I knew I would not be one of the first to get an MKII and it's not that big of a deal, though it's starting to become an issue with my shooting season just starting up.

I'm actually #1 on CDW's list. For what it's worth. It'll be interesting to see what dealer gets my (almost) $4500. I bet it's not CDW. ;)

Supposedly they have still not received any cameras though there are rumors that they have. My sales guy is the account manager for CDW and he says they have NOT received any and will not until more towards the end of the month. Like I said previously, it was pretty well known that CDW would not receive any in the first shipment as photography is not their mainstream.

I've got a couple of (other) irons in the fire and not that worried about it. Sure I'd love to have it now/last week/2 weeks ago, but I don't. Thankfully I have my two other cameras so I can still get my work done.

I usually don't have this much patience, but I'm taking it in stride. In the meantime everyone's working out the quirks and I will be up to speed when I get mine anyway (been reading a lot!) so it's not that big a deal.

I think it's unfortunate and ironic (better?) that I got my camera before Jim. I think it's unfortunate because he ordered his much earlier than I did, and dammit, after being first in line at CDW (I was 15th), he should have it by now. I think it's ironic because Jim is a professional with an immediate need (well, a use anyway) for the camera, and I'm trudging around out here in the desert taking pictures of trains and lizards. If I hadn't gotten an excellent tip from one of our fellow forum members, I'd still be waiting too.

We all know this is not always a fair world, and this is just another example of how things get screwed up.

Well, Tom, the funny thing is that after being accused of missing the point entirely and then being told what you meant by someone else (your spin doctor, perhaps?) and then finally hearing an explanation from you, I went back and read my original response, and it fits with your explanation. Retail is retail, and the retailers have no incentive to consider whether you want to take pictures of lizards and trains, or if you have a professional use for the camera. And since you were diligent and chased down a lead, you got yours first. Especially when a desireable product is first released there is always a flurry of folks who wanna/gotta have one, and the panic ensues.

I guess from now on I will wait for the official interpretation of your posts before I reply.

I drove down to San Diego yesterday and spent the night there. Little did I know that all this excitement was brewing or I would have taken the laptop with me just so I could throw in my 2-cents worth and stir things up even further.

I think we all really are in substantial agreement....most retailers are very much like people who sell sex: They aren't doing it for the sex. When you come across a merchant who treats you like they value you and your business, treasure that person. They deserve your loyalty. Unfortunately, there are precious few people in that category selling high-end camera equipment---it looks like we're going to be forced to deal with the big dogs for foreseeable future.

Reading the posts on this forum, I noticed that many who already have a 1D Mark II in their bag got them from a smaller (often local) dealer as opposed to B&H or the other big ones.

I placed my pre-order several weeks ago with a ship that may never see a port (CDW). Earlier this week, I decided to search the Web for a smaller dealer that may perhaps have a Mark II in stock (in my dreams) or atleast a very short wait list. On Google, I searched for "any state canon camera shop" and called about six, apparently smaller, camera stores or web sites and got my name on their list.

Today, I searched for "montana canon camera shop" and found Vann's. I called the 800 number... when the sales person answered I asked "how long of a wait list do you have for the Canon 1D Mark II? Answer: I don't have a wait list but I do have a Mark II sitting right here on my desk - I couldn't find anybody that could add it to the web site! Its about $4500 isn't it? :shock:

Needless to say, mine will arrive here in the Fabulous Florida Keys on Monday! :) :) :) No need to buy a lottery ticket today!
