Do any of you ever crop your final product into a square format photo for your wedding clients?

yes, square format and extreme rectangles can almost guarantee you a custom framing income! I compose my shots with this in mind. I know what a shot is going to look like on the wall before I even push the shutter button. I envision the effects, crops, colors and everything at the time I shoot.
Kevin Kubota had a great talk in vegas at WPPI on shooting with intent. I took it to heart and it has changed my world!

I'd love to shoot an entire wedding square & in B&W. I think that would be so classic looking.

Is there a batch program out there that could take your photos and crop to 5x5 or 6x6 format? Doing them by hand would be a nightmare and double or even triple my workflow... I do like the idea i have to admit of cropping to square format.... how is your workflow on that say if you take 200-300 pictures at a wedding or event?

If you shoot in RAW, I could batch process them all pretty easily to a square crop.

Sorry, I guess I should have said what program! :)
I use Adobe CS2 camera raw to convert them.. you can select all your raw files open them in camera raw, and then select them all, choose a square crop, and then basically all you have to is position the crop on all the images, and then save them all as Jpg in the background once you are finished.
Another route that may work, haven't actually tried it though... would be if you shot all the images with a square crop in mind, having the subject in the center or safe area, you could create an action that would crop the center of the image, and then batch apply them to all images.
I apologize if this doesn't make much sense, sometimes things in my head seem simple, but trying to type them out... is another thing ;)

I have CS2 also. I'll play around with that idea. Thanks. Does anyone have a before and after example of this... would be good to see the difference.

I don't think automated square crops would be that good considering it might get the composition slightly bit wrong, then your square photo might be off a bit.. Unless you preplan it all before u even click the shutter button, it may be tough to do an automated batch crop i think

True, the thought I had was to take a UV filter and mask off the square crop on the filter. that way you would perfectly frame all your shots.

i did square format wedding album for a couple - i knew before the shoot what they wanted so made sure i framed each shot with this in mind. Was pretty easy all things considered. And, as sumozebra says, automated cropping isn't the best way to go about things as you need to be careful about positioning. I cropped each image separately - took a while but nothing major.
