Taken on a cloudy and miserable day - at least this guy seemed to be having a good time with it... Regardless, he was a good sport and a great model!

Very nice even if he is just a gull. Very sharp even with the extender.

Very sharp indeed.....you would have achieved even a better effect if you had more DoF.

Hmm.. yeah I see what you mean PetKal. I had a lot of trouble with the light when shooting - very heavy overcast and dull. With no flash (except the one on the camera) I tried to compensate using the lower aperture and that's not always a good thing. Perhaps if I'd bumped the ISO to 800.....
I'll have to try this sometime again when the sun's out.

Those are some super close detailed shots of a difficult to expose bird.

I'm happy when it's cloudy outside...it means I can shoot all day without getting impeded by harsh light and too contrasty conditions. Metering for white and black birds is so much easier too, as evidenced by these perfectly exposed shots!!
