View Full Version : Poster versus photo

I was wondering if it's preferable to use different/lighter weight paper when printing a poster ("art" derived from a digital photo for example). For instance if it's simply going to be a print behind glass, what weight of paper would I need? and should it be glossy, matt or is it all a matter of personal preference?
(My objective would be to save paying for expensive paper if it's not needed!)
Thanks in advance

On my Epson Photo 890 printer, I use Epson's heavyweight matte paper quite often for prints behind glass, and they look great. Some prints look better on glossy paper, so I just experiment with the different papers. Epson's heavyweight matte paper is cheaper than the glossy photo paper, and I think it's a little lighter in weight than the glossy.

So if a picture is behind glass, then there is no point in using glossy as the glass is reflective? I hadn't thought of that. Good idea, particularly if it's cheaper.

I think it depends a lot on the particular image. On some of my photos, the matte paper looks better, and on some, the glossy paper looks better. Most of the time when I put a print done on matte paper behind glass, people can't tell that it's not done on glossy paper. I like that because it's cheap to change the photos as often as I feel like. Sometimes I'll print the same photo on different types of paper to see the difference in color. Hopefully, when I do that, I'll remember to use a photo that someone has liked, so I can give the extra copies away.
