Anyone have experience with these systems?

I'm looking for a light system to use out hiking, but also for everything else. Any suggestions?

The biggest lens that would be on it (unless I win the lottery) is a 400/5.6 w/400D.

I believe the Hakuba is a sister brand to the Velbon tripods, both manufactured by Hakuba Japan. As I recall, the Hakuba is the economy line, and the Velbon is the "upscale" brand.

I use the Velbon El Carmagne 640, and quite pleased with it:
