I have the Canon PowerShot SD100 3.2MP Digital ELPH Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom and I can't figure out how to get my camera to focus on VERY close-up shots. You know, like say I wanted to zoom in on the text of a book and take a readable photo of it. While zooming in you can read it, and then once it gets zoomed the focus blurs...

Can anyone help me out??? Thanks!!!

You need to put macro focus on or put it in close up mode.

I'm sorry, but could you elaborate? I've read the entire manual and never saw another focus mode or a close-up mode....

Sorry for my ignorance...

Actually I tried that before, and I just tried it again, but neither of these will do it. Any other help?

Exactly how far from the lens are you trying to focus. The camera cannot focus right upto the object, but only from say 2 to 3 inches away.

Right about that, say 2-3 inches. Similar to the example I used above, I would like to take a picture of text and have it readable, say text from a magazine or even smaller.

This is from Canon USA site. Macro AF: 4in.-18in./10cm-47cm
Wide; 9 in.-18 in./23cm-47 cm (TELE). Hope that helps sounds like you may be getting to close. I would also make sure you are not in the digital zoom mode. On my S50 I can turn it off in my menu. Good luck and let us know how it came out sounds like great practice :D

If you want to make a macro shot, you need to set the macro feature, plus be within the macro focus range. The Macro focus range is not the same for wide angle and telephoto settings (as noted in the previous message: 4 inches for wide, and 9 for tele is the closest you can be.)

If the camera can NOT focus at the distance you want, try zooming out or increasing the distance (back away a little).
