I started a post here last month I think. I had a problem with the 10D battery LED. The indicator would never represent an accurate reading.
Well...I wen't to take a photo over the past weekend, and the camera turned off. Put a new battery pack in the camera, camera turned back on. I proceded to search through the menu for my pictures, the camera couldn't find any, yet it reported the card to be completely full. I placed the card into a card-reader at my work, and it wouldn't mount on the desktop as it has always done so in the past. Do I have a dead card? More importantly, how can I get these photos back?

(1) What kind of CF card rescue program are you using?
(2) Have you kept the CF card intact since the incident? Don't format it until rescue works.

Check the web site of the card manufacturer you are using and see if they have a rescue program. The latest version of Image Rescue(ver 2.0) available at www.digitalfilm.com should work for most CF cards.
Good Luck,

I tried Lexar's rescue program yesterday. Unfortunately it didn't find any pictures.
Is there an alternative method? It really doesn't make any sense. It seems as though the pictures should still be on the card.
I have a 512 CF card made by Lexar

If the pictures are very important to you, perhaps you could take the card to someone that specializes in data recovery?

do you have Norton Utilities on your computer? I think that there are some data recovery tools there. I know that older versions did. Windows XP might have some capability there also, though I've never had the opportunity to try.

What did the program find? Any file debris?
If nothing, then that means that your camera died, due to power, as the end of the CF entry was being done.
Now, if no program can find any files, then you need to do a complete format on the CF card and start all over.

The Lexar program didn't find anything unfortunately. I was about to give up last weekend. I ended up trying one more time. I went to google.com, searched for servces which Scott had suggested in an earlier posting. I found atleast 10 different companies which offered services for camera cards. Some of the companies had a demo, but the one that worked the best was from a company called FlashFixers. They want you to use a card-reader, so I brought a card-reader home, tried their demo which found 10 pictures! The person I had talked to over the phone at Flashfixers said I should be able to find the pictures even though the camera can't find any. I got their full version and it found the rest of my pictures
