Hi, I have been lurking around here for about a year. I have a Canon G3.

I just got a new computer system with a LCD Samsung SyncMaster 19" 191T .. it is fabulous. The screen colors are true to the image taken.

The i960 was just hooked up Sunday and I have been doing some test printing, on Canon 4x6 Photo paper Plus glossy, all is good, except for the blues have too much purple in them.

I have done the head alignment manually, but haven't cleaned the print head yet as i really don't think that is the problem.
I did play with the printer set up preferences, moving the color bars, but that didn't help with the blue-purple problem.

Guess I would just like some help from some one who is using this printer and how I can better set it up.

I am using Canon's Easy Photo Print for the borderless option for these test printings. But not doing any enhancements from there.

thanks for any help..
and sorry about the rambling just wanted to give all the info that may be needed.

Try both ways and I'm sure you will be pleased with the results.

It's hard to comment on this without speculating on the source of the problem. I have an i950 (basically the same) and haven't noticed this problem, but I'm not using a G3.

Possibilities:

1. You're using the wrong settings for your Canon paper.

2. Your camera's white balance (AWB) was fooled and resulted in warmer images in which blues become reddish and thus appear purplish.

3. You are being fooled by your LCD screen which shows colors differently (and less faithfully) than your printer.

4. You are running into the famous "blue turns to purple" problem which turns up when RGB images are printed by CMYK devices like your printer. Some blues visible in RGB space cannot be accurately printed by CMYK dyes. See Why does blue turn purple? (http://www.ledet.com/margulis/ACT_postings/SeparationIssues/ACT-Blue-and-Purple.htm) for a technical but interesting discussion on this subject. I would not think this is a problem since the G3 color space (sRGB) is relatively small and I would guess is fully printable on the i960.

You should post an image if you continue to have problems.

My Canon G3 jpeg shots, taken with auto WB, ISO 50, flash or no flash, indoors or outdoors, print great on my i960 without "moving the color bars."

I use borderless printing on Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy and PhotoPaper Pro.

Make sure that you're using Canon inks. Had some color trouble with aftermarket photo magenta, but it was immediately corrected when I switched back to Canon.

Thanks for the replys.
Sorry it took me so long to get back here.
Maderito, that link was sooo far above my present understanding, being bookmarked for later reference.
I am not using the wrong paper setting, or paper or ink.
The 'blue' shot was true from camera to both old crt and new LCD screen,
the only difference was in the printing.

IanD, I haven't tried those settings as yet.
I had printed this picture NOT from Photoshop, but from Easy Photo Print that loaded with the printer.
When I get Photoshop set up, I will try that and post back.
Thanks for your input and time.

I know this is a fixable thing. I love this printer so far.
If I didn't know for a fact that the shot in question was blue,
no one else would know either.
When I get a chance I will post a picture of the 'blue columbine'.

thanks

Have you tried a viewing your shots with a different monitor or calibrating your present one?
