It is very simple, the part of the US that I am trapped in completely blows. You want an 18% grey card, shoot the sky here. It's 49degrees on May 11th and has rained for about 200 straight days. When it manages to warm up, the wind blows about 50mph.

Do you live in a place like this, and if you do, why?

Believe me, my intent is not to rub it in (an outright lie), but today it’s going to be warm, sunny, and gorgeous where I am.

I was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and lived in Menomonee Falls for a while as a youngster; to me, weather was never an issue. My biggest thrills in life were playing in the snow in winter, and the rest of the year, getting muddy and collecting anything ‘gross’ I could find that I could use to terrorize my older sister.

The price we desert-dwellers pay for mild winters and shirtsleeve weather in spring and fall is our well-known brutally hot summers. Starting in July and running through September, we will have temperatures well over 100F. In fact, the norm during the ‘hot times’ is usually in the hundred-teens. Occasionally it will bump up into the hundred-twenties, and I’ve seen 127 three times since I’ve lived here (three years).

So a few weeks of the year I live indoors with the air conditioner. The rest of the year, I feel smug about the weather and rub it in whenever others start complaining about the cold, wet, damp climates elsewhere.

Pretty close. Montreal Quebec here. 10 months of winter and 2 months of crappy snopwshoeing
Of course we could always live in Saskatechwan where they are in the midst of recieving 15-20 cm of snow
Why do I live here? Very easy to explain. If I didn't then who would Belmondo have to pick on about weather, beer, dress, and 3 legged donkeys :?:

Ian,
Try Nunavut on for size! It could be a lot worse and still in the same country! You could also be in Antartica, year round winter and fall this time of year, heading into winter while we're on the subject. :)

On the flip side, me here in England, God forbid it snows here in this part. This is a real site of chaos. There isn't the equipment to properly sort it and there aren't a lot of people that know how to drive in the snow. I have gone out and drive in it cuz, well I am from the North and like to keep my skill sharp and I am not bothered about (upset over) several inches of snow. The best this part of England has are gritters (sanders) to sort the roads. It is truly interesting when it snows here.

I also forgot to mention the rain here and forget about sun here. That doesn't bother me one bit, in fact I rather like it. There is quite often a haze in the air making it difficult to take decent pics. It can be done, but finding the perfect days for photography are few and way far between! All said England has a lot to offer even if you can't take pics. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. I like it here a lot!

Apparently I'd have mcneguy, at least as far as the weather and the beer are concerned (Menomonee Falls isn't far from Milwaukee, the one-time beer capital of North America).

Well Belmondo, I lived in Dallas in '99 and from July through half of September the high was over 100 degrees every day, still a record for that area I think. It didn't bother me one bit. It must be nice not to have to constantly look at weather.com to see if you can take your Harley to work (not sure I'll ever be able to this year)

I need to let off some steam - The last FIVE weeks in a row its been fine and sunny during the week when I am at work, then the weekend comes and its rain, showers, hail, cloudy and dull. And to top it off, I just checked the weekend forecast, and guess what, showers!!!!! All this while I sit at my desk at work and see the sun shining in from outside. I HATE IT, I am cursed.

CDS,
It sounds to me like the phrase "if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all" and "Murphy is my father" apply. I speak from experience...been there done that!

I forgot a few items...
