This september i will be going for a dawn ride at Grand Teton. I've never ridden in a hot air balloon and i am wondering what lens to take with me. My
equipment list will also include a rented 400 5.6 & 10-20mm. I don't think i want to change lenses in air so looking at my equipment does anyone have any ideas? thanx.

Ive ridden in hot air balloons quite a few times. A wide angle might not be the best thing as you can get pretty high and doesnt really do much other than big landscapes. A long range zoom (your 80-200) is your best bet to cover it better.
Is it just the balloon your going up in, or are their muliple ones flying?

This was taken with my 70-200mm lens in Colorado Springs Ballon Classic from my dads balloon. http://www.pasphotography.com/images/BP_IMG_4483.jpg

There should be at least another balloon flying....thanks for your input.

Take at least the 17-40 and the 80-200, change lenses when needed. It's no big deal if you know your gear, I've done it before.

Ive worked around balloons most of my life and my weapons of choice are my 24-70 for ground/inflation and my 70-200 for in air. Anything bigger will also be good.

This is the guy I work on, 310 000 cubic feet and can carry 17 people (16+ pilot). We "only" carry 13 in it ;).

Have fun!

Awesome balloon... Huge too. Working around ballons is alot of fun and you meet alot of new people. Heres a shot with my 70-200 onthe ground in CO. that has won alot of contest.

Groups of balloons or out of the ordinary shots make great images. Shot lots of photos.
