A couple of new shots. My fav subject, of course, freight trains. ;)

ES44AC #6012 refuels after delivering it's load of Powder River Basin coal to Alabama Power's Miller Steam Plant. Interestingly, the plant is located on top of what was a historical Birmingham District Warrior Coal Field mine, Palos. I still find it ironic that the plant sits on a coal mine but western coal has to be shipped cross country to supply it. Welcome to the world of .gov regulation. http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

Trains terminate their trip at a plant staging yard in Quinton, Al. The contractor, Railcon, handles their movements into and out of Miller. Typical consists for loaded trains are three locomotives on point and two in distributed power pushing. After their trains are empty, all locomotives are run together for their return trip to Wyoming.

The shots are courtesy of my 400D and 70-200mm f4L.

Nice! Neat little refueling station there.

The refueling used to be done by truck. Miller takes as many as four trains a day and each has five locomotives with a 4000 gallon tank... That took a lot of trucks. I'm betting the fuel farm made life much better for someone. :D
