Jim's '69 Olds' 442 has a fairly stock motor bored to 455cid & built to 455 specs. It has a 3:42 rear end, 88,000 miles, & he's owned it at least 25 years.

Which engine did he start with? 400? 3:42 gears were "perfect" for a good running Olds.

Great car...great year (my HS grad. yr.)...nothing but the best of memories from 1969...
A buddy of mine had an Olds 455 on an outboard low profile speed boat... We had it on Lake Tahoe in California for a few years for water skiing... It was one the baddest boats on the lake...(and very, very loud)...
That 442 Olds is the envy of the baby boom generation... Love it... Thanks for sharing the all around profile...

I use to work at that facility in the 70s & 80s when we built the Cutlass, 88, 98 & Toronados. Maybe it was a Friday night car. :D

Nicely presented upside dwn wheel included. The only Olds I would consider. No choice since several shut down my 289 Stang. No guttless Cutlass.

Nice to see a real muscle car instead of the usual Mopar junk. Took many a cruise in one of these on a Friday night.

Sweet pictures of a sweet car I actually owned for a couple of years. Although it was not in this nice of shape. I remember it was this car that gave me first taste of brake fade at high speed ( drum brakes at all 4 corners ). It scared the Bejesus out of me. I still shake thinking about it.

yes, and you done it justice Frank

I know the car is maybe 1938 (?) but seeing the number 42, seems it was a good year (too)

It's a 1969, Marie. 442 can be read several ways... 4-barrel carb, 4-speed, (2) dual exhausts is just one of them.
As always, thanks for the <bump>! :D

ha ha ha
you'd think I'd have known by the model
I was thinking (without thinking too much) that you meant it was 69 years old
hence the '38
the 442 is another matter
thanks for the info Frank

The automatic 442's could be deciphered as... 400 cube, 4 barrel carb, and dual exhaust.
The guys with the secret handshake, etc, knew them as 400 + HP, 4 barrel carb, and dual exhaust. The 70 W-30 455 was rated on paper @ 390, but all the "OLDS tuners" knew they were under rated for insurance purposes. ;)

Thanks, Bruce! 442 can be read several ways... I didn't want to confuse the issue. I was thinking (without thinking too much) that you meant it was 69 years old
hence the '38 ;) I suspect that Marie has been "in her cups" again? :D :D
