And I can say I hate couriers with authority as I used to be one for a very short time in my life.
Now - ordered the nifty fifty (and Scott Kelby's book on LightRoom) from amazon - saturday delivery, guaranteed by 1pm. by 10am I find a note on the tracking onilne saying that I wasn't at home at delivery. WHAT!? I've had office delivery, been here since 8am and apparently 9.20 delivery was attempted.
Just been on the phone with the courier company and the driver has now GONE HOME!
My lens is at the depot. I need it tonight. They can't get another driver so I have to go there and pick it up.
The driver went to a closed shop next doors half a flight up where it clearly says on the package company name lower ground floor (basement).
Un-flipping-believable!
So, I will never use DHL (worked for them)
Will never use UPS (did the same as what is now going on with my lens, apart from then it was my driving license, I was in LA, had to cancel several meetings and missed a lot of stuff.)
And this little event takes City Link off the list.
FedEx any day.
I'll just finish off the doghnut and coffee and off I go to pick up my lens.

Chill ......
Tis a pain I agree but remember you are limiting suppliers as well as your couriers here, as the courier contract is with the supplier not with you.
The other option of course is to order earlier so that you have more time. (I added that line to prove that I can sound like my mother)

i sympathise with you. I too have had my run in with couriers. I too was at home, and he knocked instead of ringing the bell, so i didn't hear him. trotted downstairs and found his delivery note, saying i was not at home! do you think head office would help? No!! can't contact him, they don't have mobile numbers. they can sms in an emergency though! go figure. Lucky the driver decided to come back on his way home, and i got my stuff. Last time it happened, it took me a week to get my stuff, they lost it! I too stressed, as i had customers waiting on my goods.

Amazon has initiated a refund of the express delivery charge. I've just come back to my office with the lens. (Ooooh it's tiny and cute.)
Citylink said they had no drivers who could deliver. I got there and there were 3 vans on the parking lot. One left shortly after I got there. Coming back to my town I see a vand of theirs just 2 miles away from my office.
Oh well - got it and got the shipping refunded.
All's well that ends well.

I used to swear by UPS, even after I worked for them, but lately I think the package car drivers that deliver to my area are smoking too much weed or something, I wouldn't let them deliver a turd anymore. I'm definately leaning more towards fedex lately.

You guys are telling me, I ordered a dvd burner a while back ago and was suppose to be shipped via UPS. I was across the street when they pull up in front of my house and I visially saw them throw my dvd burner onto my porch about 5 feet back. Only reason I didn't report it was becaused it still worked, but I should've anyways.

I once missed a delivery from CityLink and had to go to their depot to pick up the item. Whilst I was hanging around in their waiting room I amused myself by reading some of their company literature and then the job adverts for drivers. I could not believe how little they pay their guys, it almost explains some of the customer service and behaviours problems that some people experience.

You mean youve actually had a turd delivered to you? Ew
lmao
Seriously though......So far after seeing some boxes on here with some crazy looking damage to them and knowing that a several thousand dollar lens was inside, I have used the 2-day shipping on everything. Sure its more money and yes it 'isnt cool' but I see it as if I give them a 2-day delivery there is less likely a chance that they can fu(n)k it up. Not to say it cant happen to a 2 day'er but you get my point.
So far I have had great success with UPS and FedEx, no problems at all, now USPS is another story, it isnt called snail-mail because they love the lil creatures:|
