Found this carpenter ant on my deck railing today, any ideas on whether or not its a queen? All shots taken with reversed kit lens on homemade adapter, handheld with on-camera flash.

Good captures- definitely a flying ant- has a large abdoment so would guess it is female- did you see any smaller male flying ants around ?

Thanks Brian. No other ants spotted, it was cold and rainy so I was surprised this one was out and around.
