I'm a Linux user, so I'm stuck with GIMP.. (The Gnu Image Manipulation Program )

I do have WindowsXP on my laptop so I loaded the Photoshop Elements I got with my 10D on it, but I only use it when I'm on the road.. I prefer using GIMP under Linux.. It's a bit more versatile..

Photoshop, but if I didn't have it, I'd go back to GIMP.

Photoshop CS (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html). I was using Photoshop Elements 2.0 first, that came with my 10D, but I've upgraded it to CS.
I also like CaptureOne (http://www.c1dslr.com) (LE) for RAW conversion, although since I got PS CS, I'm not using C1 very often anymore.

I also have Picture Window Pro (http://www.dl-c.com) which is very nice, not as expensive as Photoshop, it has good color management and supports working with 16 bits per channel images - unfortunately it doesn't have features like layers, which are so convenient in Photoshop.

Is CS easier that Photoshop 6.0? It gives me headaches. Got Elements 2.0, PhotoDeluxe 4.0, HP Photo and imaging, Sony Picture Gear, Print SHop 20, amonxt others. Havent found one to do them all yet.

Cs obviously has more options and functions but easier? No, I don't think so. Those are overwhelming programs at first but just stick with it. It does take time.

If you want to learn about Photoshop, buy one of the many books available. I like The Adobe Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735714118/qid=1084471942/sr=1-1/ref=pd_ka_1/102-3405470-7186538?v=glance&s=books) by Scott Kelby. The good thing about it, is that it's not just a reference of all the buttons etc. in Photoshop, but it shows you how to do the things you want to do with your digital photos.

Gimp.

I also have a Picture It by MickySoft so use it once in a while for some things that it does gimp better than GIMP.

Corel Photo Paint 12 is no slouch. Costs much less than PSCS. Learning curve isn't as steep as PSCS.

C1 for exposure, sharpening, & conversion. Then PSCS. NO! PSCS is not much easier than PS6. Scott Kelby's books on PS will flatten the learning curve.

photoshop 5.0 LE :)
I am wandering if this version is not enough for me.
Photoshop Elements has a good interface but does not
have curves command and cannot inport 16bits tiff.
Photoshop CS is way too expensive for me and I dont
know what more I can do with it except working on 16bits
tiff picture for correction others than curves.
At the beginning I was unable to do some things with PS5.0LE and
was thinking that this was a limitation.
In fact the limitation was that I was not reading the documentation.
Hope this helps
Regards
Jose

Jose, it's possible to upgrade Photoshop Elements 2.0 to Photoshop CS for $299. The offer is meant for people who bought a Microtek scanner, but it works with any version of PS Elements 2.0 (doesn't necessarily have to be what you received with a Microtek scanner).

http://www.adobe.com/store/products/special.jhtml?id=catMicrotek&sourcecode=112300

It's valid in the USA until June 30.

I've used this to upgrade the PS Elements 2.0 that came with my 10D. My brother lives in the USA, so he ordered it for me there. I even sent an e-mail to Adobe to ask if I could use this version in Europe, and they said I can, but if I need support I'd have to call to the USA.

Photoshop CS is WAY above my head but for the few functions I can use, I love it. The "upgrade" deal that Canon offered was so good that I couldn't pass it up.

What upgrade deal, got no info on it. Still valid? Can I upgrade from Photshop Elements 2.0 or Photodeluxe Home Edition 4.0 or do I need the full version of CS?

Jose, it's possible to upgrade Photoshop Elements 2.0 to Photoshop CS for $299.

I remember seeing a price lower than that for students & teachers, etc. Search google for:
elements "photoshop upgrade"

That wasn't to hard, was it?
