Hi everyone. I dropped my SD600 today, and when I picked it up, the LCD is completely bright white with a few minor black/colorful shapes, but majority of it is white. The camera takes pictures fine, but I can't see any of the options since it is completely white. I'm assuming that the backlight is still working.

What I need to know is do I ONLY replace the LCD screen and everything will be back to normal? And if that is the case, where is the cheapest place to buy a replacement LCD? The only place I could find was from foto geeks: http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID2025592DD556971-Replacement-Parts/Canon/Digital-Camera-Parts-By-Model/Power-Shot-SD600.aspx

$60 for the screen, is there anywhere cheaper? And are there instructions for taking an SD600 apart? I'm pretty good at building/repairing computers, so I imagine this is an easy fix if I know what parts to get. Thank you.

Could you use a view finder instead ?

Get a cup for your EVF, it might be a cheaper solution. PLus EVF is more fun. Not sure if that model has EVF or not. Excuse my ignorance.

Cheers

A camera is a little different to a computer. More sensitive to static, dust, incorrect tools (i.e. screwdrivers being SLIGHTLY the wrong size) and incorrect use of those tools. oh and more sensitive to mistakes. It is more than possible to attempt this on your own however.
I would say $30 sounds cheap to me, unless you mess up!

Oh, and whether you only replace the screen depends on what you find when you pull the camera apart. I would say 9/10 yes only the screen will need to be replaced.

I broke my SD600 by leaving my keys in my pocket with it, same thing White screen with visible crack. The LCD was broken but not the backlight. I fixed it with a part from cannon. 732-521-7007. I also posted photos of the process online:

I forgot.

I would call the cannon number instead of using the web page you listed. There are two different LCD's for the SD600. I do not know if they are interchangeable. To know which you have you need to open the camera. They will want to know if your LCD has Sony written it on it or not. Both cost about $50.

If you are not in the US there are other places that sell the LCD's listed on this page
