The Raptor Foundation, Somersham, Cambridgeshire is 15 mins from me and I have annual membership. Its 15 mins from the A14/A1 junction.
Anyomne who has the latest issue of Practical Photography there is an article on the place.
Great access to birds and 3 flying displays a day. Only £5 a head to get in too.
So.. any interest in a POTN day out there?
If so, I can certainly ask if they would do anything special for us....

Sounds like fun. Particularly if the sun is shining.
I'm also about 15 minutes away from the centre. I've seen their birds at various local fetes, but I've never visited the centre.

I'd be interested depending on date, but I would need a lift from St Albans if anyone is passing by this way and wants to share costs.

Sounds like a potentially small but perfectly formed gathering ;)
Anyone else?
Sally, which direction are you 15 mins away?

I'm just up the A1 a bit, in Glatton. Perhaps more like 20 minutes away. ;-)

I would come along to this, and a pickup in St Albans is no problem for me.

Any thoughts on when we might do this? Has anyone got an inside line with the rain fairy?

Sounds like a goer, tho' with only one post to yer name fella I am worried you are potentially a psychopathic killer. Please confirm that is not the case and we then simply need to await Al, project coordinator extraordinare, to firm things up :D

I can confirm I am not psycopathic, and I am not a killer. I've never thought about putting the two words together though.;)

Excellent ... so we need a date from the Big Man and we're sorted. I just sold my 100-400mm IS L so will probably go just for the close up action unless I pick up a bargain somewhere.

Sally,
I wish it were that simple :) I'll have a look for a date end of this month or early July

Hatching a US sourced combo of 70-200mm IS L 4.0 and 400mm L, which is what I was after before I spied the SH 100-400mm IS L at a good price. New they are only a couple of tons over what I sold the IS L for and the US Posse might be able to bring them to Africa for me. May well go the 100-300mm 4.0 route instead tho' because all in it is still the best zoomer I have had.

End of this month would be good, because I'm shooting the World Championships for the first two weeks of July.

I'd still be happy to go from end September, am away from next weekend 'til then, and actually think the light will be a little more sympathetic to us. A very sunny day can be rubbish for shooting. got the 70-200mm is L 4.0 and 400mm 5.6 L combo in the end, which will be good for this kinda day out before I sell them!

Yup ... just booked my St Albans/Gatwick ticket actually, so other than double checking all my paperwork, printing off accommodation booking addresses and contact details then I'm all set. Still haven't had the vouchers for our first two nights in Windhoek or the several days at Etosha NP which is now getting urgent. Best laid plans, etc ... I think the booking agents will get them out this week ... is high season at the mo' there so I know they'll be going crazy to keep up

You'd be very welcome SandP ...

My experience is they are usually very disappointing ... women of my kinda age are usually single for good reason :p

I am busy doing nothing much and if I can get a lift off someone aka biturbo or someone else then I am still keen, or I can hire cheap likkle a car for the day. Not sure about riding with Pete and Roy tho' ... Pete will no doubt be farting and giggling most of the way and Roy will be complaining about it :p

Thanks for all the responses guys - I did wonder if it had been forgotten about. My pool weekends are thankfully dying off at this time of year so I am free this weekend and quite a few of the others before christmas. Here's hoping for a nice crisp day:D
Lift is not a problem.
