View Full Version : Are Ducks Therapeutic?

Just outside my new office is a canal, and I sometimes see a few ducks wandering around. I found the sight of ducks quite comforting in a way.

I think it's because I now equate ducks with photography, which is a far nicer thing to think about than work.

Anyone else daft this way?

Ducks make me think of the verb PetKal, which means "to capture the likeness of ducks."

I'd love to know why the duck thing started.

For I am duckless, and hang my head in shame on POTN because of it. ;)

But, yes, I know what you mean.

He's just winding us up............ British humor and all that.

BTW, why build a chunnel to France? They wouldn't give up the Holy Grail, after all.

While I can fully appreciate the photographic potential ducks offer, I also sense a certain scarcity of challenge your work routine seems to be afflicted with.

You are going through a lot of changes. New job, new house. Basically a new life as you are switching gears to so as to become a husband and father in the near future. The ducks are comforting because they are a symbol of things that stay the same. For Americans (and I assume Europeans) its like going to another state or country and clicking on the TV in your hotel and switching to the Weather Channel. No matter how strange things are, there is the same old WC. The same with ducks. 5 cents please.

p.s. if you had seen geese and been comforted I would have said its because you had a goose-down quilt (comforter) as a child.

I don't know if they're therapeutic, but I find them to be a bit greasy.

Wow, expert psychoanalysis there!

I would have just said that in a world of chaos and upheaval, consistency is prized.. you're so right, things that stay the same are valuable.
