Hi Sue!
Thanks for the kind word! :)
These guys, although they're "bumbly" and seemingly slow, are difficult to get spot on because they move around so much. I tried having two effects here, the DoF (so, high aperture) and a shutter speed slow enough to capture the speed effect on the wings (not really that great of a problem because those wings move so quickly). This was really trial and error - mostly error though :(. But since they tend to move around so much and so erratically at that (moving in on a flower at different angles too), the majority of my shots were misfocusing - like in this shot:

I'm happy that I managed to capture a few nice frames ...
Nice to be near an apple orchard too. Just stand under a tree and shoot away - ah yes, and bring lots of CF cards. :p

Mine would probably end up misfocused alot. Yeah having something to attract those bees would be a plus, all I've got is my garden and right now most of the flowers have bloomed out. =o/

I got a shot like that and it took me several tries, most ended up focusing where I didn't want it or zoomed out too much...mine was buzzing around a Rhododendron tho: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=321900
