View Full Version : problems with MacOS X & CRW files

I wasn't expecting this to be a problem, but then who ever does. I've just gotten myself a shiny new PowerMac and I'm busily copying all my files over from the old PC (no flames please).

The problem seems to be dealing with CRW files from my G1. I've tried all the usual suspects, and had problems with all of them.

iPhoto 1.1.1: doesn't seem to have a clue what a CRW file is, despite Apple's marketing claims to the contrary

iView MediaPro 1.5: it can get the preview image, but seems to be unable to decompress the full image. The web site says that this is because Canon won't publish the format.

Canon's Raw Image Converter 1.2: This does work, but it doesn't have any of the settings you might want, such as changing the white point.

Canon's Image Browser 2.1: This refuses to run, saying it doesn't support my OS.

QPict 5.1: Same problem as iView MediaPro. It can deal with the preview JPEG but it can't get the full thing.

Am I missing something? Is there no decent Mac support for RAW files? Amazing!

I just started using iView MediaPro on my old iMac and had the same problem. They can import any literally obscure old format, but not CRW!

They suggest that until Canon will release the proper software to them, that I use Canon's RAW Image Converter in tandem with iView to go from RAW to TIFF to iView to anything else I might desire. I have Canon's RAW Image Converter Version 1.2.0.1 and it works like a charm used as above.

You'll love your new Mac, I'm sure!!
