Just ordered my first lens!

My 30D should be here in time for Memorial Day weekend, and in anticipation I just ordered a bunch of stuff from B&H including my first lens, the new Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX macro! I really wanted the 17-55 IS lens, but just couldn't justify the price. I got a 4 gig extreme 3 card, a card reader, a lowepro slingshot bag, and the lens with still about $300 to spare compared to just buying a used 17-55. Hoping to eventually round out my kit with a 10-20 Sigma, a 70-200 F4L, and a ef-s 60mm macro, but for now I think the standard zoom will give me plenty to chew on, being a new SLR user.

Here's a shot I took today with my SD800: I've been working on my composition skills, but obviously the ability to get really sharp, properly exposed shots is sometimes pretty frustrating on the p&s. I'm hoping to be able to do better with the 30D!

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be very happy the the 18-50. I owned its predecessor, and was really happy with it (just wanted a longer and less wide lens). And the person I sold it to is still delighted with it as well.

Also, to be honest, as you're starting out, I think you're well advised taking the route you are - and the 18-50 and 30D will make a superb couple :D.
