right now, im considering buying either a Canon D60 or a Nikon D100 once it comes out.
I have decided on the D60, because the D100 pictures look soft..
wel, back to the topic. I spent all my $ on a D60 and now i only got $400 to spend on lenses.
I would prefer a zoom starting from 28mm to somewhere in the 105-135 range.
what would be the best, street-priced around $400? Thanks

Canon 28-135 IS - this is the best zoom lens for the range you specified and in your price range. You might want to have a look at this thread from dpreview:

The 28-135 IS is my carry around lens, always on the D-60 nd a great lens.

Look into the 24-85mm too. I knew that I would be pruchasing a longer lens, (70-200L f4), so I did not want the overlap that the 28-135 would leave me with.

where can you get one for around 400?
it cost about 600 in ritzcamera...
oh, and do the lense extend when you zoom in and out? I've heard that they do and it can collect dust.

Look at my links page for some good online retailers. Delta has the 24-85 for 293, and the 28-135 for 439.00
Most zooms in this price range will extend while zooming. Moving up to L glass, including the 70-200 f4 will keep the same length while zooming. If you watch your conditions, e.i not shooting in a sandstorm, dust is not a problem when it comes to zooming. It occurs more when changing lenses, and with the D60 even that is rare.

What is the website for Delta? Have you been happy with them? Those are suspiciously good lens prices. Gray Market?

i use Tokina AF 28-80mm f/2.8 AT-X more than any other lens. the zoom range is just right. ive shot all day with this one lens. if you dont need f2.8 there are a lot of lenses that can give you this zoom range at a lower price. the down side: its too heavey and has a funky manual/auto focus ring on the lens.

I think the poster has long decided which lens to get. The post is over 9 years old. ;)

At first i thought another noob mispelled the 60D. It was D60 indeed! Wow! LOL
You never know Sirrith. One could be still undecisive on a lens over a decade. :D

Yes, I'm still wondering how a thread from 9 years ago got pulled by JJoker to think of responding!!
+1 for what cfcRebel said. Back then, I used to only dream of owning my own SLR and impress the girls. :D

I'm so confused on how people actually find threads like this one...I mean searching is good, but to find one this old and not realize its a decade old? Come on...

I dunno....he may still be having a hard time deciding. He's only had 4 posts since 2002......

i feel like it's mainly a glitch of some sort...where random threads pop up in "new" areas...if you search d60 the latest entry i get is last may...unless there's some search feature i'm missing out on
edit: well forget that...i guess if you go into advanced search it shows the super old threads

Not until September 2004 and it wouldn't be useful for a D60 owner.
Often interesting old threads show up near the bottom of the page in the "Similar Threads" section. I don't think there is a specific cut-off date for replying to a thread and we do see people getting jumped on for asking something that has been asked before.
