Hi everyone,
Yes, I am still a newbie to the whole photography thing, but I am going to Phoenix in early June for an entire week and was wondering what areas might be good for some landscape shooting. I've been there once before, but was only there for 1 day, so I don't really know the city or area well. Anyone from there on here who can give me suggestions? I'm probably staying close to the office which is in the 3000 E Cambelback area, so preferably places that aren't like $100 cab rides away :D Thanks!

Papago Park is a nice place to shoot. Get good desertscape work. There is another place just down the road from it also that would be good for you. Just can't remember the name.

Hope you are prepared for the heat :D
Papago Park is also right near the Zoo, and the Desert Botanical Gardens. Beyond that, if you don't have access to your own vehicle... I've no other suggestions really.
Phoenix is huge, getting out of the city takes some driving.

Do you know exactly when you'll be in town? We have a pretty active thread going in the members section. Our next outing is to Flagstaff on June 2nd since it's gotten really hot here. If you're here then and would like to go, a bunch of us are carpooling from Phoenix.

It's a dry heat though;) I would second what xpsentity said about the Papago Park area. It's a good area to shoot, however in June you need to get to the parks early. Both the zoo and bot. gardens open at 7am.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
I'll be there June 3rd arriving at about 7pm, leaving June 7th at midnight. I'm staying in the 3100 block of East Camelback. I'll do some research tonight around the Papago Park and how far from my hotel. Might be able to get out there for early morning and get in an hour or two before meetings start! Looks like I'm just going to miss your outing, that's too bad, would have been great to get tips from people!

I know you mentioned Phoenix, but if you can get down to Tucson, there's some neat places there as well. I particularly like the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the Pima Air and Space Museum and the Titan Missile Museum. If you do go down and get to the Pima Museum you might want to take the tour of AMARC. This is the DOD's Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, where all the surplus military and DOD aircraft are stored.
There are galleries from the above (except the Desert Museum) and the Phoenix Zoo on my website...
