They use Nikon! Connected with a long time friend who has been a Forces photographer for 17years. After ditching Hassy medium format 3 years ago they went full digital with Nikon as their weapon of choice.

Should I withold my taxes?

PS: They use the Canon XLHD series for their video.

Hey - us peacenik lovin Canadians don't like showering our Armed Forces with enough money to buy high end gear. We'd rather rent transport planes from the Russians, buy used subs (that leak) from the British, buy used tanks from the Dutch, and outfit our photogs with Nikon!

Do I sense a trend here? ;)

Yeah, this is not a surprise.

Low bid that meets the specs.

All depends on how you write the specs, lowest common denominator, etc.

And it is not like they don't service the units.

Unfortunately, this is just one more indicator of how poorly Canon Canada handles competitive prices up here. (I know there are shops that do well, but on the main our pricing is outrageous).

There is another thread on Canadian pricing around that mentions a few that I'll be looking closely at, to see if they make it worthwhile to stay in Canada.

Competitive pricing on 5D is the next hunt.

Man, I'm starting to sound like a broken record:confused:
(For you young people, a record is a vinyl disc that has a single spiral groove with the sound track embedded in the irregular edges of the groove. A stylus, needle, is vibrated by the irrregular edges on the groove and this is translated into audio. A broken record may continue in the same arc of the groove repeating the same audio over and over and over.)

Is this pricing apparent in Nikon as well?

At the start of every fiscal year the currency conversion is set. Our recent surge in currency conversion to the USD doubtfully will be reflected in the near future for pricing.
