Does anyone cart around backdrops to job sites? What do you use and where do you get it? I'm specifically interested in black, very deep like velvet and white. Right now I'm using king flat sheets, but there's got to be a better way.
Oh, and does anyone have a good recipe for building a portable pvc stand for said backdrop?

Not really sure where you're located, but try Joann Fabrics. They have a wide selection of fabrics. As to the other topic on hand,
GOOGLE!!!

Best of luck, btw.

I regularly carry several different muslins to job depending on what I am doing. I buy the real muslins that are 10X21 ft. and then I have a stand that is similar to this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/99858-REG/SP_Systems_SPBACKC_Background_Stand_Case.html). This breaks down to a small case and is quite versatile. This and a couple of muslins are quite easy to carry.
When I was first starting out I did use just material from a fabric store. You want to make sure that you get something fairly heavy in fabric weight so that you don't get light coming through it from the back.

thanks ya'll , this is helpful information. I'm hoping to make a selection very soon.
It does look like a pvc unit might not be very convenient to lug about.

I have a small backdrop stand that goes very high, very wide and breaks down into 4 pieces that fits into a small bag - I got it from Backdrop Outlets. Don't forget, though, you will need clamps to hold the backdrop to the stands. I also a a large black velvet backdrop (made from two pieces of velvet sewn together) which I purchased from Jo Ann's fabrics. Works great.

Mark, would you care to share which one it is, specifically. That sounds just like what I'm hoping for, particularly in the wide department.

Unfortuately, it doesn't have a model number. On the case is stamped, "Portable Background Stand, Morris Company, Chicago, ILL.'"

This is the stand my husband made for me. It definitely serves it's purpose!

Lacy,
How wide and tall did you make your backdrop?
Mark, thanks for the info.

I travel all the time.... I have sheet of white vinyl that I keep rolled up... and a bunch of large pieces of black fabric that I picked up at Walmart of all places.. I love it because it's a deep jet black... it's made of a spandex/polyester blend so it doesn't get wrinkly... that is a huge plus.. and it's sooo dark black. I just throw it into a large storage tub with my sheer fabrics and baby blankets, etc... works great. :)

Mine is approximately 6.5ft wide by 7ft tall. So far I've only used it for child portraits but you could also use it for a couple of adults comfortably.
When choosing my PVC, we chose to go bigger in diameter to provide a bit more stability. Hope this helps you!
