Found this rose on the floor earlier, thought it made a really cool shot, well i picked it up, and then found some bricks, thought that the harsh combination between the bricks and the soft petals of teh rose worked well!
Anyways C&C most welcome

For the first one, you need to use the DOF preview button on your camera and look for blades of grass between you and the subject. It will close down the aperature and let you see things like this blade of grass before snapping the shot.
Number two is a big improvement. No distracting items in front of the subject. Not sure about the crop though. Too much empty space above the rose for my taste. The blades of grass are more in focus than the rose. I assume the rose is the main subject so that should be where the best focus would be. I do like the color combination though.
I do like the texture contrast of this one, but the edge of the brick running accross the picture just below the rose tends to lead my eye out of the frame instead of into it. Try framing this shot with the long sides of the brick running from the bottom of the frame to the top and the rose in the middle. They should still be slightly on a diagonal accross the frame, but running more top to bottom. Do not include the closest brick edge in the shot. This will lead your viewers eye into the subject more. Watch the focus. It looks like the sharpest focus is on the brick right in front of the rose.
It helps to do these types of shots with the camera mounted on a tripod so you can take the time to check out the details. Great ideas on both of these setups. Watch the details and you will have some killer pictures.
