Can anyone recommend a good place online to get a decent lens hood for my DRebel kit lens (18-55) 58mm.
Is there anything that makes one hood better than another or is there a certain hood that I should try to get? Sorry for my many questions, my hood knowledge is quite limited. :?
Many thanks!

From the Canon lens chart.. The Digital Rebel kit lens uses the Canon EW-60C lens hood.
I'd get the Canon hood.. It's probably way over priced, but I don't think anyone makes third party lens hoods for Canon lenses..

My local camera store (Adray) had a rubber shade for under $7US. If you also use a UV-Skylight filter there will be a very slight cut-off at 18-22mm, which doesn't bother me as I'll just clone or crop it out anyway.

I got a 58mm "wide" rubber one from B&H for $7 or so... It's very wide but does provide some side light protection over a non-hooded lens...
A standard $5 rubber 58mm hood got into a bit of the images corners from 18 to perhaps 20mm... I think it would do a better job on the kit lens with a bit of the rim trimmed back out of the lens "view"...
I'll probably wind up giving a regular rubber hood a trim as I like the coverage of the deeper hood.

You know, you can just collapse the rubber one when shooting at 18mm. Don't have to trim it.
